Recommendations
Based on user reviews, here are the three most common recommendations for Basecamp:
Learn and Utilize Basecamp's Features: Users recommend taking the time to learn about all of Basecamp's features and functions. They suggest getting training or working with someone experienced in Basecamp to fully utilize the platform. This recommendation helps users make the most out of their Basecamp experience.
Set Up a Standardized System: Many users suggest setting up a system or process that everyone can follow when using Basecamp. This recommendation helps to ensure consistency and streamline project management within teams.
Consider Other Tools for Advanced Functionalities: While users find Basecamp handy for organizing projects, offering instructions and feedback, some reviewers suggest using a more advanced tool, like Monday.com, for large teams collaborating on projects. They advise evaluating additional functionalities and comparing prices before deciding on Basecamp.
Overall, users recommend considering Basecamp as a low-cost option for small teams with straightforward projects. It is recommended for organizing projects, managing workflows, facilitating team cooperation, linking departments, coordinating tasks, and storing data. However, users caution against using it for purposes other than its intended use and highlight that compared to more advanced tools, it might seem basic and limited in benefits. It is also suggested to stay updated with appropriate titles and efficiently organize projects while using Basecamp. Additionally, Google Drive is recommended for file management purposes.
For internal and client-facing project management, Basecamp does the
trick! You can set and assign tasks with deadlines to specific people and keep all documents and correspondence in one place. You control what the client sees at all times. You can tie it in with Harvest or other time-tracking
apps. The only thing missing is CRM and invoicing capabilities.
Pros
Project Management.
Task Assignment.
Document keeping.
Cons
CRM would be helpful.
Invoicing directly from a project would be great.

I rate it a nine only because there are a few additional tasks it could cover to complete a project on Basecamp from start to finish!
As one of two administrators, I use Basecamp to support professional, personal and volunteer projects. The range of projects that I've used Basecamp for are: - Multiple book writing projects; - Research projects; - Volunteer organization development projects and - Side gig/income stream development projects.
Pros
Task management
Collaboration with colleagues
Discussion of relevant issues
Cloud storage of data/files
Kanban board
To-do lists and reminders
Cons
Search content of ALL file types
Video collaboration

My colleague and I knew we needed an online platform for collaboration on various projects. We initially tried Slack but found it very command-line oriented (at that time, 2016). We tried Basecamp and very much liked it (we're both 'users who know enough to be dangerous'), and we continue to use it for a wide range of professional and personal projects.
Our design and development company uses Basecamp as our primary project management system and single source of truth for all our projects. It enables our remote distributed team to collaborate on projects and communicate with our clients. Our company relies on it for our daily to do lists, sharing updates with the team, and monitoring project status and progress.
Pros
Ease of use - friendly enough for less tech-savvy clients
Control of user permissions - we can manage which data the client has access to and which is internal facing, as well as assign different team members access to different projects
Auto updates and notifications - each user controls how and when they receive various types of updates, and auto-checkins keep everyone up to date
Simplified task management ensures that the process stays streamlined
Cons
While creating sub-groups within lists is helpful, it would be nice to have a better way to tag tasks with attributes, like priority level
Rigid structure is nice for simplification, but for some projects more flexibility is needed
No Gantt-type view or way to create dependencies or relationships between tasks and deadlines
Likelihood to Recommend
Basecamp is a wonderful tool for teams of varying degrees of technical knowledge, teams managing lots of different types of "agifall" and waterfall projects, and teams that are remotely distributed. It's probably less useful for more strictly agile-focused development teams, compared to other more flexible software applications like Jira and Asana.
We wanted to use Basecamp primarily as a singular hub for all of our remote work. We mainly use it as a project and task tracker, idea board, document dump, and chat. It helped us transition smoothly to remote work as we are able to coordinate ideas, tasks, and documents in one place across various departments with varying levels of tech savviness.
Pros
Ease of use
Simple and clear layout
One tool for almost everything
Cons
Not good for complicated projects
No dependency tracking
No subtasks
Slow to load
Delayed or missing notifications
Likelihood to Recommend
Basecamp is well suited for teams where projects are not very complicated - single-level, minimal to no dependencies. If your team’s projects can be managed with just a checklist, it can work. For more complicated multi phase, multi dependency projects, the limitations of Basecamp show. I would also not recommend it for chat as it is clunky and slow. Basically, Basecamp is a good virtual office, but not a project management software nor chat.
My team used Basecamp as a task management tool to track our projects and progress. It was also used to communicate with an external vendor and keep all of our collaboration in one place. With each thread, we can pick and choose who to include and attach documents and links as needed.
Pros
Basecamp has a user friendly interface that's quite straightforward and intuitive
Basecamp allows organization by "projects" and "discussions" so everything is easy to find if you label things
Basecamp sends an email for every new post or reply so that you get notified for updates in the platform
Cons
When selecting and uploading files, there isn't an option to drag and drop
To my knowledge, there isn't an option to include a link as an anchor text. It will be the entire URL that's being displayed if you insert a link
Likelihood to Recommend
I would highly recommend Basecamp for most colleagues, and I would say that it's a great project management and collaboration tool that will keep everyone internal and external of an organization on task. Basecamp, however, is not great for a back-and-forth discussion because that would create too many emails and details will get lost in the process. A conference call or instant messages might be better suited for that, but in terms of bigger-picture project discussion, progress, and updates, Basecamp is fantastic.
Basecamp is used by a very small portion of our team. This project management tool is the application of choice for our mobile developer team who work remotely. It helps us communicate with them in a space that they are used to, thus streamlining how we manage tasks, bugs and projects with them.
Pros
Very simple interface anyone can use
Inexpensive if you have a huge team or want to use it for multiple clients
An amazing founding company story and vision
Cons
Can't do the advanced things you can in other project management tools
Not the best at forecasting or measuring how many resources your teams have
Not as strong if you use it for everything (e.g., file storage and messaging)
Likelihood to Recommend
Basecamp is a simple project management tool that has the potential to replace other tools you're currently using. Whenever it comes to apps like this you need to think what your team requirements are and how complicated you want your project management to be. If you need simple to-do lists and there's not a lot of volume in terms of users, projects and tasks, Basecamp could be the right tool for you.
In my role, I need to plan much more in advance and seeing the work unfold visually is the most important factor for me, so I wouldn't rate Basecamp as highly.
It is one of the creative tools that helps you in organizing your things and lists according to your choice. Now the projects are not in anymore scattered form, instead, they are in synchronization and listed in a pattern. It helps you by judging which one needs to be completed first.
Pros
It helps you in assigning tasks to your teammates well.
You can add notes or any attachments to your work and project.
You can keep the track of your work about how far it has gone.
You can make a message board and start talking about how to complete a task by chatting with your mates.
Cons
It should give notification if any update arrives from any employee about any project.
It should be providing a worksheet so that progress can be noted and editions made in the work can be seen as well.
I think its price should be lowered so that more people can take benefit from it.

Basecamp is highly suited for your work where you have to manage your work, organize your team and plan your schedules. It allows you to keep everything onboard even your professional conversations about a project like giving ideas and improvement about any specific area of work etc. It helps you in keeping your team together so that best work efficiency could be done.
We used Basecamp to streamline several processes during the lifetime of the campaign cycle: specifically trafficking creatives, building creatives and creating media plans. As an organization, we were comprised of offices in seven different markets that were all serviced by a centralized digital department and we wouldn't have been able to manage campaigns across the board if it weren't for Basecamp.
Pros
Intuitive and easy to pick up and start using.
Great system of reminders and notifications to keep everyone up to date.
The ability to assign to do's and view other's to-do lists is super invaluable to me as a manager.
Cons
Sometimes navigating to areas I frequent is a bit clunky.
I wish I could at least see projects I'm not invited to, though ideally, I'd love to have a setting to just automatically give me access to everything. As a manager, it's always tedious having to request access to campaigns all the time.
Likelihood to Recommend
I've always used it for project and ad campaign management and I think it excels at both. We used it as a central meeting hub for sales, operations, and creative teams as well as the client in some instances.
Honestly, in all the instances I've used Basecamp it's worked exceptionally well. I'm sure there are instances where Basecamp is not ideal but in the Advertising world, I've always thought it was a great fit for our needs.
We tried out using Basecamp for a little while for our Customer Success Team, mainly during onboarding new customers. There are lots of steps to our onboarding process, so Basecamp allowed us to track the progress of each customer account while also sharing resources that are personalized for their onboarding.
Pros
Basecamp has a very simple and effective product that is easy to navigate and not overwhelming compared to other project management type tools out there.
Their price point is superior to any other tools out there. You can have unlimited users for just $99 per month and 500 GB of cloud storage.
Their campfire chat area is a great alternative to emails. This plus to-do lists saved a lot of time in drafting follow up emails and checking in with accounts.
Cons
They have virtually no reporting within the system, which makes it very difficult to figure out how to improve systems and optimize.
Their integrations feel a bit lacking, especially again with any reporting tools out there.
The lack of customization has been frustrating at times. For example, there isn't a way to hide whatever you want in a project, so we've had some customers confused about certain sections where we've had to explain to them to just ignore those.
Likelihood to Recommend
Basecamp is great if you're tight on a budget and want a simple, yet powerful tool that can handle lots of users. It's also great if you're on a budget, especially as your team and clientele grow. If you have a repeatable process that you can build out into a template of to-dos, then that would be another reason to use Basecamp.
