Use Cases and Deployment Scope

This is my second position where I have been able to use Aha! to assist in the overall product management of a company. My first was a larger one that was not ready to fully commit to integrating it into all of the support systems and was pretty much just a roadmap tracking tool. In my current position, I have just deployed Aha! for about 45 days, and we have already integrated it into Azure Dev Ops, and Microsoft Teams. We are also looking to integrate it with Mavenlink project management as well.

We have recently opened up the ideas portals and this has allowed us to present a simple way to interact with our customers, to allow them to enter, as well as vote on ideas for the product overall, to allow us to better guide the development organization towards building a product that meets business needs as opposed to simply keeping up with the Joneses on a feature by feature level.

Pros

Ideas portal for internal as well as external
An easy way to present your roadmap without having to build a new PowerPoint deck should something change.
Integration with third-party products is simple.
Their support staff is excellent, always available, and all former product managers, so their domain knowledge is unmatched.

Cons

The roadmap feature presentation web page could use some better visuals. It's a little bland and grey.
The mobile app only shows you what you are assigned. I am not able to manage through the mobile app--I need to use the web page.

Likelihood to Recommend

Not only is Aha! pretty intuitive to use, the support is first class and their documentation is great!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it as the basis of our agile software development practice in conjunction with Rally and Github. It is used by the entire organization with various levels of complexity. It addresses the business problems of tracking upcoming and current work, as it is shared across multiple teams in the organization.

Pros

Work breakdown - it allows teams to do initiatives, capabilities features and stories all in the same product release.
Roadmapping - allows for simple combined visual plan of work breakdown across multiple initiatives.
Customization - allows different levels of work breakdowns to be available on different projects.
Integration with Rally and other tools.

Cons

Complexity of integration - each implementation of an integration with Rally has to be manually created.
Complexity of configuration - each project that has a customization has to be done independently.
Cost per license is too high for contributors.

Likelihood to Recommend

Aha! is well suited for large distributed teams with a substantial amount of requirements and different projects. It is also well suited for small teams that have a lot of divergent efforts. It is not well suited for creating a unified backlog from multiple large divergent products because it cannot well demonstrate the difference.

Aha! is a great tool for features collection. Quite nice for scribble pad, such as " do this, make this, collect this." Very easy to use basic features, very easy learning curve for the basic features collection.

If you need more advanced options it becomes a bit more tedious and complicated and you may require help, but Aha! has great support and sometimes contacted me without even asking for their help!

Pros

Features collection.
Ideas scratch pad.
Detailed overview of collected ideas and features.

Cons

Advanced configuration and usage - not an easy UI/UX.
Out-of-the-box overview (e.g. show me all features from Group X).

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Aha is being used by our Product team to help us prioritize work efforts and initiatives across our organization. It is an essential tool for our strategic roadmap efforts.

Pros

Roadmap and strategic planning. It is an essential tool for product management.
It has near limitless customization capability.
The ability to create custom reports and dashboards make it a major strength in a broader adoption in our own organization

Cons

I think Aha tries to do too much at times. It tries a bit too hard to handle project management as well as product management and as a result can often fall short.
Since everything is customized, it is hard to really get the initial implementation correct, even with Enterprise onboarding support.
There needs to be some serious work and training around how the integrations with Trello, JIRA, and other essential tools work as it is hard to understand them in a way to explain to our own IT teams and it has caused confusion.

Likelihood to Recommend

I would specifically recommend Aha when the need is around roadmapping and the ability to outline strategic priorities and goals. However, it is less suited for project based work and that is often conflated into product management tools. It also lacks resource management, which is why the focus should be strictly with strategic planning.

Aha! A simple Kanban tool at last!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Aha! in coordination with Jira - the simplistic, Kanban-style organization is really great for helping non-technical marketing folks visualize their workflows and plan for what's coming next in their queue. We use Aha! across a bunch of different departments, and have really appreciated the internal linking features, the visual orientation of the design, and the extra features like Gantt charts and timeline mapping.

Pros

The UI is incredibly simple and intuitive - I picked it up with no particular training.
I like how you can sort or filter your boards and tasks into different styles of display until you find the one that works best for you.
The internal naming system is really natural, even for people who haven't used a kanban board, sprints, or agile before.
The little side features, like linking to external documentation or tying cards together into groups, are all really well handled and easy to use.

Cons

Some people fuss about it being overly simplistic, but I find that I prefer it.
We never took much advantage of the integrations - it'd be nice to push a task from Slack to my board.
The board-to-board functionality between peer boards (ie: not two of my own, but my boss's board to mine) was a little rickety.
I'd like to see a cleaner archive function.

Likelihood to Recommend

For a marketing team, where we move quickly and are constantly rearranging our tasks and flows, Aha! is an excellent tool. It takes little maintenance, has high visibility of the big picture tasks, and is easy to modify. We did have trouble with more technical teams, like our devs, feeling like it wasn't built for their needs and struggling to implement it.
