In TrustRadius reviews, Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services firms utilize ActivTrak to gain critical visibility into remote workforce activity and optimize employee productivity. The solution is primarily deployed to support project management, ensure accurate client billing, and enhance operational efficiency, particularly for distributed teams. Reviewers frequently highlight its ability to provide granular insights into active work time and application usage, which is essential for understanding how professional staff allocate their efforts. Its screenshot capabilities and robust reporting features are also valued for validating work processes and informing management decisions.
Beyond basic oversight, ActivTrak enables data-driven decisions for resource deployment and facilitates workload balancing across teams, a benefit cited by 5 of 8 reviewers. However, some firms find the user interface complex, hindering efficient data extraction and analysis. There are also concerns regarding the accurate categorization of activities and the potential for misinterpreting productivity data for highly skilled, non-linear work. Overall, while the platform offers significant value for operational transparency and time tracking, its application for nuanced performance management in this sector requires careful consideration.
Pros
Granular visibility into active work time for precise project billing and resource allocation.
Objective data for performance conversations and identifying efficiency disparities in specialized teams.
Screenshot capabilities for validating complex technical work processes and deep dives into activities.
Robust reporting features for high-level oversight and informing management decisions on project delivery.
Effective in balancing workloads across distributed professional teams to mitigate burnout risk.
Cons
User interface complexity can hinder efficient data extraction and analysis for project oversight.
Challenges with accurate activity categorization for diverse professional and intellectual tasks.
Potential for misinterpretation of productivity data for highly skilled, non-linear work.
Limited granular control over data capture, impacting distinction between productive research and general internet use.
Not universally leveraged for direct workflow or resource management by all firms in the sector.
We have a remote team of over 150 employees. We use ActivTrak as a coaching tool to aid in performance management and monitor productivity. We use "active status" and screenshots most often to identify any areas of concern. This product allows us to gain visibility of our team across the country.
Pros
Screenshots
Productivity/Active Status
Cross-Team Comparisons
Cons
When we first signed up with the product, there were different colors to indicate productive vs inactive vs unproductive (or uncategorized) time. The colors were more clear.

ActivTrak should not be used as your only way to measure productivity. While it's good at a glance, it doesn't always tell the whole story of what an employee is doing. I wish it could categorize productive time by the app that was in use. I do find it helpful in identifying training needs or areas where an employee may be less productive.
I use Activ Trak to ensure I hit all the hours necessary for the day and week. With COVID-19, the company continues to let people work from home, and it is hard to see who is on track every day. This is a very useful tool to see when and how employees are working outside the office.
Pros
Time
Websites
Charts
Cons
Outside meetings.
Navigation
Too many buttons for the same information.
Likelihood to Recommend
Keeping your staff organized and productive outside office spaces.

The ActivTrak software is used as an big brother overseer to make sure that production hours on our work computers doesn't misalign with the hours that we report working, as well as, track the "productivity/efficiency" of the hours reported.
Pros
Tracks hourly productivity
Easy and usable display
visually pleasing UI
Cons
Non-productive applications that are actually productive are reported incorrectly
there is some nuance to the app and learning curve to find meaningful insight to the data reported
Likelihood to Recommend
In any company where there is remote work there needs be a consideration for the hours reported working and their efficiency. I think that this kind of monitoring software could introduce unethical behaviors, when employees know they are being monitored.
I use ActivTrak to monitor employees' productivity. It is excellent as most employees know you can "click around," and Microsoft software will show you as productive/active. However, ActivTrak allows me to review what their screen is doing. I have caught numerous employees clicking around for hours and not doing actual work.
Pros
Provide Screenshots of computer screen.
Show what websites/software the employee most visits.
I am able to track how much passive time vs active time.
Cons
I wish I can pick and choose when a "Screenshot" happens.
I wish the sidebar didn't have so many options- its overwhelming.
I wish there was a tutorial on each function.

ActivTrak is well-suited for remote companies looking to optimize the productivity of their team members. As a manager, I can easily access what my remote team is currently working on. There is no question about whether someone is "stealing company time." I can easily see and verify the information as needed.
ActivTrak is largely being used to track productive and passive times as well as overall logged working hours. It also helps to verify start and end times as well as alert and notify on specific security policy violations or flags. ActivTrak was a preferred solution due to the less invasive tracking it provided for the company.
Pros
Alerting
Reliable reports
Ease of installation
Cons
User/Group Management
tracking applications that aren't focused
Clearer visuals to understanding active/passive/productive/unproductive. Visual representations should simply show levels of activity - consider maybe line graphs instead of histogram type graphs.
Likelihood to Recommend
high level insight into how time is being spent for your company. Can also help understand license usages or if users are distracted from primary responsibilities. ActivTrak assists in trusting but verifying the accountability aspect of employment and ensuring employees are being diligent with their time management and honest with their records.

We are a fully remote company and use ActivTrak to monitor productivity of our employees. This is especially helpful for salary employees who do not clock in and out so we can determine how many hours were worked that day/week. We also use it to gauge the amount of time employees are on particular websites so we can ensure KPI's are being met.
Pros
Track Productivity
Provides Clear Data
Easy to Use Software
Cons
Reporting out of website to excel could be more user friendly
Sometimes hours tracked aren't accurate
Likelihood to Recommend
Best used for remote workforce and if your company has different departments that have different roles/responsibilities and you are looking for a way to gauge overall productivity. From a company compliance standpoint it is extremely helpful to monitor the company as a whole regardless of job title or duties.

The product addresses the problems of tracking remote employees productivity easily. With ActivTrak we are able to see when our employees are being productive and when they are just sitting at their computer. When discrepancies between paid hours and worked hours varies greatly we are able to investigate to see if there might be a legitimate reason or if the employee is stealing time.
Pros
Productive Hour tracking
Website tracking
Tracking when employees are multi-tasking at home for personal use
Cons
Sometimes the screen view doesn't work
Passive time needs to be reflected differently
Excessive passive time should generate a warning
Likelihood to Recommend
If you have a lot of remote employees ActivTrak is a good tool. The data needs to be investigated and employers shouldn't just rely on strict hour requirements but it is a good tool for seeing where employers should investigate. If everyone is in the office and not remote I think this tool would be less helpful but still valuable to see who is wasting time.

It is used for activity tracking as well as employee performance coaching. It has allowed us to obtain quality data about our workforce. The program has enabled us to address any glaring issues while also commending employees on extraordinary work efforts.
Pros
Real-time monitoring
Productive vs Unproductive time
Work location tracking
Cons
Easier download of activity reports
More user friendly format needed on Working Hours detail report
Improve Alerts on certain triggers
Likelihood to Recommend
Very well at providing detailed activity data but that also can be overwhelming for those that are micromanagers.

With a 100% remote workforce, ActivTrak is used to help both management and employees track how they spend their time. It is especially helpful as a means to look into the activities of those employees who are struggling to meet their objectives, but employees also find it useful to make sure their work time is logged automatically replacing tedious, manual time tracking efforts of the past.
Pros
Application usage tracking
Productive/non-productive time tracking
Individual/Team activity reporting
Cons
Allow user to identify customer project they are working on
log in/out to allow untracked personal use of corporate assets
perhaps a systray icon and/or desktop widget with some user-specific metrics
Likelihood to Recommend
It is well suited for secure environments where user activity on corporate assets needs seamless activity tracking with minimal invasion into the employees workspace. Since all activity is logged 100% of the time and the user is unable to disable the agent, it is perhaps too invasive for corporations who allow employees to use assets for personal use.

ActivTrak is a key dataset for our product analytics efforts. Measuring duration of web app users is exceptionally difficult without this tool. With ActivTrak, we are able to assess how long users spend on different page paths around our app, assess how product enhancements impact this, and gain crucial intelligence for how we should think about mapping out processes and planning our product roadmap.
Pros
Measure duration on web app (very difficult without ActivTrak)
Measure navigation paths around web app to generate process maps
Measure differences in how efficiently users use our app before and after feature enhancements
Cons
Could be a bit easier to install / remove users
Could be a bit better at notifying when program fails to run on user's device
Likelihood to Recommend
Specifically, measuring web app duration as well as duration on other activities is exceptionally difficult without ActivTrak. In our opinion, that is by far and away the biggest differentiator of this tool.
ActivTrak also has very solid dashboarding and data integrations. We copy our ActivTrak data into a data warehouse and found the support team to be very helpful.
