Vimeo offers a large amount of storage with each of their plans, though they also have a weekly limit on how much data can be uploaded. Additionally, Vimeo provides access to unlimited playlists and subscribers for their users. Lastly, Vimeo has integrations for popular marketing and email services that are available at most pricing tiers.
Wistia offers powerful marketing tools to support video marketing campaigns. Analytics tools like A/B testing and video metadata embedding make Wistia great at getting videos in front of their target audience. Wistia also provides many support videos on their site and is known for responsive customer support for premium members.
Limitations
Though Vimeo and Wistia both offer powerful features for business, they also have some limitations that are important to consider.
Vimeo lacks the robust analytics features offered by Wistia. A/B testing is not included, and the analytics captured by Vimeo aren’t as in-depth compared to Wistia. Vimeo also has limits on the number of users per account and how much video can be uploaded by users in a week. This can be an issue for organizations that create lengthy videos.
Wistia has limitations on the number of playlists and subscribers a user can have at most pricing tiers. Additionally, Wistia provides a set number of free video uploads each month, with subsequent uploads costing $0.25 each. This could be a problem for organizations that upload many small videos. Like Vimeo, Wistia also offers custom branding for video players, but the interface is more complex to use.

Both Vimeo and Wistia offer free versions for users that want to test out their features, but they are limited. Wistia’s free version only allows the upload of three videos. Vimeo’s free accounts can’t be used commercially.
Vimeo offers three tiers of pricing. Vimeo Pro costs $20.00 per month and provides access to 20GB of video upload per week and three users. The next tier, Vimeo Business costs $50.00 per month and provides integrations, ten users, and unlimited weekly uploads up to a total storage of 5TB. Wistia has 2 pricing tiers. The Pro tier costs $90.00 per month and includes 10 free video uploads, 1 channel, and up to 250 subscribers. Which Is Right For You?

If you're a small company with one or two employees, I'm sure that Vimeo is great. When it comes to larger organizations and teams, they clearly are treating such customers stepmotherly. You need a basic account in order to be an admin on a Pro-plan team, but you only get basic support (3 days wait). The teams function is riddled with bugs and affects the whole experience. In this case, I would not recommend Vimeo at all.
It's so awesome to see my videos come up on Google Search. A click brings viewers right to my website!!! Incredibly powerful. If I were just posting on YouTube, visitors would end up there and then off to the next best cat video instead of taking action with me on my website.
Image and Branding - Vimeo has always had an edge on design and branding versus its competitors like YouTube. Using Vimeo as a content delivery platform gives the appearance of being luxurious and having a high-end product.
Video Configuration - I've used YouTube through multiple iterations of their video management and configuration options, and Vimeo has continued to beat it hands down, both in ease of use and robustness. I can easily organize my Vimeo videos into tags and playlists while I still struggle with YouTube, where it is quite laborious.
User Interaction - Vimeo allows you to capture user email addresses for email lists with ease, something its competitors have not figured out yet. You can easily split your video into chapters and hyperlink from within the video to other areas, features which competitors like YouTube have in some form but not nearly as easy to use or well-implemented as Vimeo.
Video Analytics - Vimeo has a full-featured analytics suite that helps content creators understand user interaction and engagement with their videos.
Versioning and Collaboration - Vimeo has workflows for video history and for collaboration where you can have a content creator upload a video which enters a pipeline for an editor to approve. I have not used these workflows, but it's pretty cool that they have implemented features like this.
Custom Micro-Sites - I have only ever embedded Vimeo videos in websites that I've created, or sent them as links to clients, but I have seen well-designed micro-sites for content creators built using Vimeo. Overall, Vimeo does design and branding very well. Their micro-sites look much better, visually speaking, than competitors like YouTube whose equivalent feature, the YouTube Channel, just seems dry in comparison.
Obtaining embed codes for a significantly large number of videos can be very time consuming as there is no way to automatically pull a report.
Within a project, there is no way to set the list to show a specific number of videos and you may only have a certain number of videos shown unless you click to expand the list and continue to do so.
Once the list is expanded and you click in to a video, when clicking back, the list reloads and you must expand the entire list again which can become very time consuming.
I usually extract the links of all lectures from the embed code, but now Vimeo is not allowing that feature. Instead, I have to copy the whole embed code and then extract the URL from the embed code separately. This process has become cumbersome and a bit of hassle since I don't need the whole embed code.
Wistia is super easy to use and very reliable, anytime a video needs to be updated, the existing media can be replaced, but the url remains the same so anywhere this media is shared or embedded, it is immediately updated. Their support is extremely helpful, and there is very rarely any issues with this product.
The design is clean and intuitive for the most part, which allows for ease of use by both novice and experience users. We are grateful for the ways that the front-end video player is easy to navigate and intuitive to use, and the backend is generally designed the same way. Tools and options are where you expect to find them, and it was easy to navigate the storage on the backend through folders and content filters
I just love the interface and the way things are organized. You can find all of the various controls and have the ability to enable/disable each. You can also get to help quickly from any screen. The screens are not cluttered and have a good use of whitepace, without the need to page through controls or reload the screen.
Vimeo does well in performance with systems with ease. I have not encountered any issues with loading pages or slowing down in other software or systems.
Couldn't be happier with the overall performance of the platform. Videos load fast, rarely have loading issues, look sclean and the styling and sizing doesn't have issues. The data comes in quickly and in real time. Also, on the administrative side, the videos seem to upload well without much issue. There's always issues uploading video, but we had way less upload issues with Wistia than with Vimeo.
Terrible support. When I subscribed to Premium we were guaranteed support. However, after the first e-mail I received from them, I never heard from them again. I sent several emails over the course of a couple of weeks acknowledging that due to covid, I did not expect a miracle overnight and that I was keen to work on the issue with them. I have not heard from customer service at all. This is very disappointing. We lost customers due to the poor quality of the livestreams and were left to sort the issue out without their help.
We have only had to reach out to Wistia support a handful of times in the 4 years we have been using Wistia. They have always been quick to respond and help us solve the problem. The system is self-service so there should be very little to no need to reach out to support on a regular basis.
Vimeo does provide the legwork of content curation and management of sources. The quality of content is not bad from a viewer's point of view. I think the analytics could use a little bit of improvement, only because my department has a lot of users.
Vimeo is more reasonably priced and a little more user-friendly. Plus, I like the look of it and that I can use it at a price that doesn't break the bank for a small business like mine. It seems to have more features than these other platforms, so you don't have to have so many different platforms just for your video needs.
Wistia is in the process of making their livestreaming way better than the free alternative like YouTube and a well known competitor like gotomeeting. It's easy to add in cohosts, interact with chat members, add in polls and other features which can be a bit clunky on gotomeeting.
General membership engagement has increased significantly. We are accustomed to 20-35% of users viewing content and that has increased to about 40-60% within the past 5 months.
We have found that linking a Vimeo video where the video can be viewed in-app or on the website is when we see most views, rather than redirecting users to the Vimeo account.
Doubled lead capture from lead magnet on website from one year to the next.
Increased email interaction on newsletters when embedding Wistia video thumbnail into email campaigns (10-15% links clicked bumped to 30-40% links clicked).
Can save us about 50+ hours of one-on-one client meeting time per year for pointing clients to video content rather than presenting the same info in a live setting.
