Meditech is well-suited to small, independent hospitals requiring a flexible, mostly full-featured EHR with good support. The Expanse upgrade was a significant step forward, and brought the system into the modern world of touch devices while reducing clinician documentation burden.

Allscripts' multitude of choices cover a vast amount of options in order to customize to a general family practice or even a specialty practice. However, there are some specialties, such as opthamology, for which Allscripts has not created templates.

  • Clean interface, easy to see alerts
  • Light footprint on computers, quick to load
  • Good organization of clinical material on the toolbar

  • Imaging and laboratory results were found in Allscripts Professional EHR.
  • Allscripts Professional EHR also provided emergency room history and physicals created by the emergency room physician.
  • Allscripts Professional EHR also provided a conduit to discuss review results with hospital nurse case managers.

  • Poor reporting
  • Difficult to view grid data, such as complete medication history
  • A lot of interfacing with its own product due to code differences

  • Cannot order supplies like breast pumps, abdominal binders etc
  • Printing ultrasound reports is difficult
  • Cannot open more than 1 prenatal record or you lose data

We selected Allscripts primarily for its exceptional reviews and affordability in the EHR marketplace. While Allscripts may not be the best EHR overall, it definitely meets the demands of the seting I practice in. Allscripts is an innovative software and we are pleased to have chosen this EHR for our group
