Jamf Protect vs. Trend Micro Smart Protection Suite, with XGen

If the environment is predominantly Apple based then Jamf Protect is a strong solution for providing EDR capabilities to endpoints. The detection capabilities are up to par with other leading EDR tools and it integrates well with Jamf MDM. Additionally, the compliance, telemetry, log forwarding, and USB device management being included as part of Jamf Protect provide good ROI.

As mentioned earlier, privacy and financial transaction threats will continue to risk with the current and rapid rise in tech tools/computer software. And handling such threats is NOT a core competency for many businesses. So, a paid version of such a robust systems comes well recommended - especially for those users who often use mobile banking or pay via cellphone apps

• Low resource use Protected Agent - stops tampering with agent and is not a resource hog
• Managed and custom Analytics - along with the out of the box Analytics provided by JAMF, admins can also set up their own to focus on areas of concern eg NISTcompliance items
• Vendor support - support is very responsive and knowledgeable

• Its easy deployment I have installation on servers
• The level of detail in the logs is very comfortable
• Virtual patching that you use is unique
• Consumes few system resources
• Its high rate of effectiveness in detecting threats

• Jamf scoping can be a but of a pain sometimes
• For none security specialists it can be a little hard to navigate the portal
• It can be hard at times to understand the alerts and what is causing them

• During run-time you would feel that systems are slow.
• Ability to detect cyber attack and response to cyber attacks can be improved.
• Support for advanced malware, botnets can be improved.
• Some investigation module are provided as optional add-on, so they should be integrated.

Jamf Protect is easy to manage. It is a separate interface from Jamf MDM which is nice for Security Operations teams. It allows Security teams to manage only the Security aspects without having to dig through all of the MDM configurations. For exception uses cases, Jamf Protect does provide options to customize settings where needed.

We deployed the trial version of Trend Micro Smart Protection Suite, with XGen. The trial was applied to 3 users including one from accounts to check all angles. Considering the overall performance, as detailed in prior specifics, we found it to be a very close contended to Spybot-Search and Destroy, that we have been using since 10++ years. In fact, since the later does not have an andriod app, we are, most likely, shifting to this product after locating and evaluating 2-3 close competitors. Our experience with Trend Micro Smart Protection Suite, with XGen began with its free "Trend micro housecall" around 8 years before. The minuses - 1. It does seem to be a little more resource intensive vs. Spybot search and destroy 2. The absence of cookie cleaning and associated tiered options (the kind of cookies I want to retain or delete) is one big gap

I have only had to contact technical support once, which in itself shows what a good product this is, and I received spot-on advice from the person I contacted.

In some aspects, Jamf Protect was far superior to the others mentioned above. The only downside I can see is that it is only macOS which could be a problem for hybrid environments.

Everything I've used and installed before and since has been easier to implement and support. TM had attractive pricing, however, that was negated by the overall experience.

• Reduced helpdesk tickets for admin tasks; reduces overall IT costs
• Reduced lost time due to malware
• Reduced lost data due to infected computers needing a wipe and purge of any malware

• We have stopped multiple infections of ransomware from spreading.
• Lost some productivity when database crashed
• Updates tend to slow system down
