Great to take quick notes during meetings. Along with being a good planner app, it offers a clean list of tasks from bottom left which looks great. It is also useful when using Google Calendar. I am a list person so I rely on this app. It is quick and easy to use and I never have to worry about losing a paper list.

Microsoft Planner is a user-friendly visual tool for organizing tasks and workflows. It’s great for team collaboration, integrates seamlessly with Microsoft 365 tools like Teams and Outlook, and offers flexibility for projects of all sizes. Additionally, it provides mobile and web access for seamless productivity on the go. That’s a big plus right there.

Pros
  • The best part, Google Tasks is FREE. No paywall, no ads. Just pure productivity. I was looking for some task-management app which is free, since it was difficult to get a paid one. I found that this was the perfect solution for me.
  • It's deeply integrated with other Google services like Gmail and Calendar. It can pick tasks with Gmail from emails, in the form of suggestions. It's up to you, completely. The tasks will appear in your calendar automatically, if it's time or date specific.
  • It's simple and hassle free to insert tasks and complete them. The app loads fast and hardly faces any crash. I encountered no such crashes.
  • It is present in multiple platforms. I would create a task in my phone, and would check it off on my laptop.
  • It's hassle free to add and check off tasks. It was very helpful for me in college.

  • I love the ability to tag and untag others as needed
  • I love the ability to customize the tag labels and that there are so many options
  • I love the ability to add comments and it notifies the others tagged in the task
  • I love that the task description can be changed as needed without notification to others assigned to the task

Cons
  • Limited in scope and customization
  • Not really a great stand-alone app for use with ioS so lack of integration with iphone makes it clunky and not very often used when not as desktop
  • Support and helpdesk very limited like many of Google products

  • Does not allow you to view all tasks and sub-tasks (checklist) in a nested view.
  • Comments have character limits that can make it harder for teams to communicate exactly what they want to share.
  • There is no way to mention a teammate in a comment and share files and documents in the conversation (collaborative tool???).

It is a very useful tool that brings teams in sync with one another. The integration with other Microsoft products makes it an obvious choice because you don't have to purchase a license for a completely different tool that doesn't have cross-functional capabilities with the software you already use on a daily basis.

Usability
Google is simple to use and easy to understand. Having a one-click to add tasks via Google Calendar is a must for any busy business that manages multiple accounts and/or projects. Compliance and business standards are at the forefront, with notification reminders so you don't forget any of those annual certifications, for example.

The tool is easy to use, but it is just as easy to set up. No specific skills are required, but its usefulness in our work is immediately apparent. Colors are very helpful in creating a clear interface and providing a very precise overview of the tasks to be performed.

Support Rating
Since the app is free, we can't expect to get a great support. 1. The app does not even have a dedicated forum where other members can help each other. 2. The app only has a feedback option, which I rarely think visits the team. 3. Even after sending many feedbacks, you can't expect a reply. 4. In a nutshell, if you face any problem, you can just wait. Nothing more than that.

We switched from Google Tasks to Todoist as we like the layout and the functions more, even though we still use all the other Google programs. Nothing particularly bad but we enjoy Todoist more for our purposes. Google Tasks is even more simple to use than Todoist and has different layout options.

Our organization chose MS Planner because it is an included tool in the MS Suite, and since we are unfortunately replacing our current and much better project management tool due to a consolidation of the tech stack. However, it doesn't appear that any of the teams using the current program intend to use MS Planner due to its poor functionality. We will likely be pivoting to Jira instead.

Return on Investment
  • It has made me more productive. Now, I can complete twice the [amount of] tasks I used to do when I was not a user of this app.
  • I remember much more about smaller tasks lying around than before. Smaller tasks may have a larger impact, so they can't be neglected.
  • It has a great impact on my mood as well. Now, I feel 50% more happy and motivated at the end of the day, looking at my completed to-do list.
  • The app pays off in the long run. It's definitely has a very high ROI score, based upon my experience.

  • Saved over $1000 each year by not having to purchase a third party tool for our content planning
  • Not sure that I can provide a hard number to this, but having the oversight to see when something is coming due and making sure everything gets executed in time
