Communication
Comparison of Communication features of Product A and Product B
If you're simply sharing and syncing across devices and don't care about granular security permissions, this is an easy win. If you're needing more control over the ability to restrict users from deleting folders, sharing folders, and allowing only certain groups to be able to view a folder, this can work but will ultimately give you arthritis as you'll end up having to perform a multitude of clicks for a task that should be able to be done in a fraction of the action. Have a folder template that allows for the first two levels of folders to be view only and the third level allowing file/folder creation and deletion? Have fun setting each of the third level folder's permissions-- they should give out free wrist braces. When discussed with their engineers about this function, a suggested $28,000 custom script was suggested. I don't believe them when they say that they haven't heard of other customers wishing to assign rights to multiple folders-- Something any sort of real admin would require. It simply isn't important to them, which is fine. The current ability
Quip is an excellent program for pulling all writing together under one roof. Some may argue that you could just use the Google suite of products (which is technically true), however, I think Quip is easier to use and bring all document types together with better organization. The searchability is top-notch (I solely use ctrl+j and the search pane to move through Quip). For any company that does a lot of writing for multiple clients, or has a lot of projects going, it provides solid organization. It also is great for allowing visibility into project status without someone potentially causing a conflict (corrupting a document). If you are looking for a full-scale project management software - Quip could probably do it, but it would likely take a bit more internal work to get your system setup.
Lists - Quip makes it easy to log your thoughts or tasks into bulleted, numbered or check-boxed lists. You can click checkboxes to mark things off the list, and you can drag and drop single line items to reorder your list very easily. This is especially helpful in prioritizing tasks on the fly.
Organization - you can group your documents into various folders, favorite the ones you use most, and track changes and updates to each file. It has a very Slack-y feel to the way things are organized, which I find useful.
Sharing - Quip is a very collaborative tool, allowing you to share and edit documents with co-workers, and get notifications when they update or respond on a particular file.
The search feature is powerful but it could definitely be finetuned. Sometimes it shows results that make me wonder why those particular ones showed up.
The update to the dashboard (recent update) happened without us being aware and we had to relearn how to work around the platform.
We found that usage of Egnyte in our supported clients, with sufficient bandwidth, provided all the features and stability we required. The billing setup was fair and the support provided was ample for end users and well as our in house admins. There was a concern about high usage clients but this was taken into account during the vetting process.
Really easy to use the interface. The web browser is very intuitive and I have not had any notable issues with this. It's easy to work on documents as a team, and the only issues we have to tend to come with Apple apps and downloading large files to WebEdit. It's very similar to the filing systems that come on Apple and Windows devices so not a steep learning curve.
It is the best collaboration tool in my company. Through it, the organization has achieved better connectivity and efficiency in its communication. Primarily, the docs feature of this software is the most utilized in the company. Slowly, dash-boarding and project management features have also been utilized. Generally, it is the best tool, very easy and fairly streamlined
Egnyte works very well across all platforms and as an add-on to other programs. Load time is close to nothing. Reports can be made in no time as well. All in all no performance issues. We can see that it depends on the local network connection. If you're running with fiber there won't be any issues.
I never had to reach out to customer support for Egnyte. I don't know any coworkers who have had to reach out to Egnyte for support either. As far as I am concerned, the support team is doing a good job since I have not had to reach out to them.
I have never used Quip's support. To be fair, we hired someone who used to work for Quip before working at our company, and he implemented it and pushed it with the team. He was very biased toward the product, and yes it was better than Google Drive, but by how much?
Egnyte syncs with Windows machines better than any competitor I have come across. The service focuses on just this platform and their in depth focus shows in the end result. Google is not really made with Windows in mind. Box is cumbersome and the web portal is not easy to use. SharePoint sync to PC is terrible.
1. We use it as an effective way of collaboration between teams. 2. Can be used as an online spreadsheet. 3. It helps in accessing the data by multiple teams hassle-free. 4. Can customize the action, like editing or locking the spreadsheet to the other users based on the business need.
The promising advantage of Egnyte is that user can access their files from the cloud anywhere without any cumbrance like connecting to VPN or other third-party soft wares.
No risk of data loss.
The platform is lacking in changing the parent administrator of a folder as if one person is the administrator of the file or folder and when needs to change it becomes clunky and does not supports it properly.
It is a tool that allows work teams to move forward in a centralized way and meet their objectives as efficiently as possible; this has allowed us to meet our customers and brought more work to the organization, therefore more revenue; I would say that the ROI was fast enough, as expected.
