CrowdCompass was the best part of Cvent each time I used it, from the ease of use to the customer service and handholding. I would recommend it for anyone using Cvent Event Management for an in-person event. I know Cvent just rolled out their virtual event hub though, so for virtual and hybrid events that are employing the Cvent family of tools, I would probably say CrowdCompass is unnecessary.

For smaller sports organizations or event productions Vendini is appropriate. It is also better suited for venues where the inventory is primarily general admission or very basic section/row/seat. The platform does not allow for much seating customization on the user's end. I would definitely not recommend Vendini for larger venues.

Pros
  • Ease of use for the planner. CrowdCompass is an app that allows our onsite event managers to quickly and easily make changes to the agenda times and locations or send push notifications/alerts to attendees.
  • Ease of use for the attendee. User error is minimal with CrowdCompass. Download instructions are simple and clear. The use of icons within the app makes for a simple user experience.
  • Customer support. Our CrowdCompass support team has been phenomenal! They're always able to assist with any questions or with helping us find new ways to make our experience even more positive.

  • Interface is pretty easy to use.
  • Event creation process is straightforward.
  • Ability to use on multiple devices (laptop, phone, etc.) is a plus.

Cons
  • Event apps are becoming consolidated into one platform app that contains events from all the clients who use it.
  • No branding of your own app with your own name and your attendees having to download a third-party app with events other than just yours available in it.

  • System is often very slow.
  • Limited user ability to customize ticket promotions within the platform.
  • Major issue - not friendly with certain firewalls. Iona received dozens of phone calls this year from fans unable to purchase tickets online because Vendini changed something which made the platform blocked by several servers being used by fans.

Support Rating
Once we paid for our apps, I felt like I was left to learn on my own. There are plenty of Help articles available, but no training sessions. I'm a visual learner and having to poke around and use trial and error to build the apps took way too much valuable time away from other parts of my job. It was frustrating and I brought it up with my CrowdCompass contact, but was told that they don't provide any training sessions and if I had questions I should refer to the Help articles or call support.

Don't wait to register with Apple and Google. You can do a lot of prep work prior to setting up CrowdCompass for integration.

Alternatives Considered
CrowdCompass is the only mobile app that we have used or looked at. They are on the pricey side, but their integration with Cvent makes the cost worth it. With any other mobile app, we would have to either re-enter the event details or pay to have a custom API created

I've used ProVenue in the professional sports world (working with the NY Mets). ProVenue has drastically more capabilities and is a much more powerful system than Vendini, but such capabilities would not be necessary for smaller arenas or productions

Return on Investment
  • It's had a positive impact financially because it integrates with Cvent.
  • It's a much quicker process to build and design, saving staff hours of work.
  • Unlike our old app system, we have more control over the content of this app. We can make our own edits and additions without depending on external people to make those for us.

  • Allowed Iona to compare YOY sales and attendance figures. Something we were not able to do before.
  • We have been able to create events from remote locations (i.e. conference tournament bus trip ticket sales). The ability to just set up an event from wherever one can access the internet is very convenient and has increased our ticket sales for certain events.
  • The Vendini reporting has increased the efficiency of internal and external audits when it comes to ticket sales and revenue.
