Checkout offers great service and expertise and stands above its peers in full-service offering, integration, and ongoing support. However, Checkout is not suitable in a scenario where Paysend is fully licensed and a direct acquirer of the scheme. In this scenario, Paysend can perform the full value chain in-house.

Payoneer is well suited for small to large-scale organizations for sending and receiving payments and establishing business internationally. Because their customer service crew is inexperienced, payment and account-related issues can arise and take a long time to fix. It's also appropriate for individuals or freelancers that need a payment provider that can collect payments from all over the world.

Pros
  • Reliability of the platform
  • Account management: bi-weekly calls and follow up by email or slack, good understanding of our needs and high engagement
  • Technical account manager: as above, high engagement with us and sharing Checkout.com technical roadmap
  • Performance: with the recent enhancement in intelligent acceptance,
  • Mix of own and third party acquiring: this is much appreciated for a merchant like us to be able to process locally via third party acquiring when Checkout.com does not have its own

  • The best part of Payoneer is that there is no deduction of any commissions like we have in PayPal.
  • I always get notifications regarding the remuneration which helps me in tracking my money.
  • The payments gets automatically transfer to my bank account without any hassle.
  • The conversion rate of the currency is higher than other payment tools like PayPal.

Cons
  • Their dashboard can get better. They have been making improvements
  • Faster settlements as it's a bit of a pain to have big reserves till ACH clears every day
  • Much stronger consumer facing brand name in the US so more end customers trust the links powered by Checkout.com

  • For some international countries it take a lot to get the physical card. This may be related to the local post office too, but it's a hassle for new users
  • It would be good to have tutorials on how to do basic tasks in video or audio, for users that can't read for too long or have a disability

We do not challenge the change of payment solution every year. It's a long-term choice.

Reliability and Availability
In the last 3 years that I have been working with Checkout.com, they had an unplanned outage that lasted less than a few minutes. Their uptime is amazing. If they have maintenance, unlike banks, they don't have downtime during this time. We frequently require their support and Checkout.com responds to us within minutes. When we have important rollouts, I schedule calls with our merchant support manager to monitor the rollout/perform tests, etc. It is always easy to find time lost even with short notice.

Performance
Checkout.com performance as an acquirer and a PSP is excellent. We have too many transactions per day, therefore reports take some time to generate before they are available for downloading. But it indeed takes reasonable time. We use native/h2h integration therefore, there is no redirection issue, all pages load quickly on our side. Based on my experience, Checkout.com will never never integrate with software or systems that will slow them down. Amongst all payment methods they offer, all are processed immediately, without delays.

Support Rating
Support has been top-notch. I've been with 3 different payment processors in the past and they did not provide any support with regards to failed payments, regular calls to optimize our acceptance rating. Checkout.com has been in constant communication with us since Day 1, explaining trends and providing us with data and explaining to us how we can improve to get the most out of Checkout.com.

The support is really awful. They send you generic answers, and actually don't really understand what is going on. For example, when our re-verification was stuck, support agents told me that the account is active and you can send a payment. I did that, my card was charged, but the payment was declined, because the account was not active

Alternatives Considered
We still use all the above, but checkout was selected to be included within them because of their current stability, their future-looking approach, and our interest in how they would develop. It's fair to say they are keeping to that initial evaluation and going from strength to strength.

Before Payoneer, I used Paxum, a Canadian product, that was or is similar but more expensive. Also used Payza(later Ecopayz), and European alternative, they have their ups and downs, they aren't even listed in the Search above, basically they are both payment gateways that allow using several payment methods, and any payment gateway, the problem is they don't have any bank accounts associated with them, therefore they are more limited in that regard. Both use a card as the main withdrawal method, and both support international currencies, but there as I mentioned there isn't any bank account associated with them, nor there is a way to connect them to Stripe.

Scalability
Our tech team implemented payments API to process payments online. Analytics team receives transaction repots that we use to build our own performance dashboards and help to reconcile transactions. API is indeed flexible - we don't use all features but if required we can easily implement them. When Checkout.com adds new features or functionalities, some of them can be used even on an older API version which saved us tech resources and implementation time. We use the same API to expand into new markets - technically we don't need to change anything when we want to launch payments in a new country.

Return on Investment
  • To be honest the performance are in line with other providers.
  • The positive impact is related to the quality of the services, very high and easy to handle.
  • The negative impact is related to the revision of manageable volumes due to the revision of risks other than those expected after contract signing.

  • Using Payoneer we have grown very well especially in 3rd world countries.
  • Due to its nominal transaction charges and better exchange rates, we get a decent ROI.
  • Since it is a very easy to use payment gateway and does not require many technicalities hence it is very well accepted which helps us in "ease of doing" business.
