Apica vs. InfluxDB

As I use this for only my area, it is very well suited to what I need it to do. Apica Synthetic monitors two different web applications in a time interval that is easily customizable for uptime and latency. These are critical indicators for a cloud-based point-of-sale system. We need solid uptime and limited latency across the enterprise.

InfluxDB is a time series database and should be used in that intent. Each data ingestion streams should be properly configured to ensure optimal database performance. InfluxDB works very well but like any other databases requires maintenance and tuning. We have been using the TICK stack and are very happy with the results.

• It's very clunky. Infrastructure is large and very difficult to upgrade.
• SaaS and On-premise versions are different. There is an LDAP integration but users can only be assigned to one group (i.e. department). If you are in 2 departments, you need 2 separate logins.
• Update: they now offer federated logins
• It filled a gap in monitoring for us, but we're looking to move on.

• Small, but growing community - This database engine's community is much smaller than alternatives. This can make finding a DBA or support less easy, but not impossible.
• Documentation could be improved - The docs for getting started don't effectively lead first-time users to understand how the underlying systems are designed.
• Performance Analysis - There seems to be a lack of tools to give context to slow queries or other performance issues
• Out-of-the-box security - The out of the box security is designed to operate in an internal network and is limited.

We trust the results that Apica Synthetic has achieved. Real-time alerting is critical to our clients and with limited resources, we can't handle many false positives; Apica Synthetic is the only solution that provides both of those features.

InfluxDB is a near perfect product for time series database engines. The relatively small list of cons are heavily outweighed by it's ability to just work and be a very flexible and powerful database engine. The community and support provided by the corporation are the only areas I have little experience.

Apica Synthetic is very effective while configuring the account setup for any of the database/UserID.

We have worked with the InfluxDB support team a few times so far and it has been positive. Issues submitted are worked on promptly and we have good feedback.

Apica Synthetic is more efficient than other competitors; our main priority is gain in the effort, time, and customer satisfaction, which Apica Synthetic definitely guarantees. Real-time alerts are just perfect which is exactly what we need, I can't say the same about other tools that may be less expensive but also less efficient.

We have looked around to find different options we had when we first started to move to cloud. At that time, the options we had is Google Cloud BigTable and InfluxDB. But quickly we realized that InfluxDB is the database specialized in time series database and performs better than other options we have.

• My department is not charged for Apica Synthetic so no ROI, but from a customer service perspective, we can react to an outage and repair it faster than our customers can report the outage.
• Our vendor's own monitoring tools are not as accurate nor as timely as ours. They rely on us telling them, from Apica Synthetic, that they have an issue.
