Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
We had moved most of our server infrastructure to VMware and switched to Veeam to take advantage of their integrations. We had previously used larger, more expensive integrated storage backup solutions. Veeam lets us efficiently backup and restore our VM's and store the backups on cheaper disks. The reduced cost and flexibility let us also start creating archive backups of specific systems without any additional licensing or costs.
Pros
- the feature to take quicker incremental backups and create synthetic full backups weekly allows us to much more quickly backup our larger servers and not impact the workday
- replication of backups from our main datacenter to our secondary works very well and has allowed us to smoothly migrate servers by restoring them to the secondary site
- we're able to efficiently restore files from different points in time
- adding more storage for additional retention or new services is quick and easy without the need for vendor interaction or additional contracts
Cons
- if you aren't sure when a file needs to be restored from, it can be a little hunt and peck to find the backup file that has the file or version you want
- restore processes do take you through a few different wizards that can make you feel like you are going to restore a whole backup when you are just prepping to get into the specific restore process, specifically the first time
- if you have an app-specific restore, you can't directly go to the tool to restore for your app, you have to start at the main console to start the process first. Once you know or remember, it isn't a problem, but it is a few extra steps.
Do you think Veeam Data Platform delivers good value for the price?
Yes
Are you happy with Veeam Data Platform's feature set?
Yes
Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?
Yes
Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?
Yes
Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?
Yes
- Veeam has allowed us to save a lot of money on dedicated backup disks. We've [transitioned] too much cheaper storage without issues
- By not requiring a full backup running every week, using synthetic fulls, we've greatly reduced the workload on the endpoints and also reduced the work staggering those fulls to minimize the impact
- We've been able to maintain and increase the speed with which we can restore files and VM's when we do have issues that require a restore compared to our old systems
