Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
We implemented Veeam B&R to replace several disparate backup solutions. Veeam is able to back up virtual servers (image level), files, and application-level (SQL, Exchange, SharePoint, Oracle) plus perform DR replication to a secondary site with a single product and is saving us $40,000 per year on software maintenance.
Pros
- User interface is very good. Coming from Tivoli Storage Manager, this is a huge upgrade.
- Scalability (proxy servers) and integration with deduplication appliances. Adding proxy servers for performance is a snap and requires no additional licensing.
- Ease of restores of application data (SQL, SharePoint and Exchange). Very intuitive (except SharePoint, which is not intuitive anyway...).
Cons
- It would be awesome if B&R could combine with the O365 product for a single management point.
- We saved enough on maintenance the first year (compared to Tivoli and DocAve) to cover the purchase price and installation consulting. After the first year we save $40k/year on maintenance.
- We improved our DR plan by leaps and bounds after being stalled for years.
