Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Traffic Director to do our regional based load balancing.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Easy to use interface for traffic director
Fantastic uptime
Flexibility in shaping failover rules

Cons

Website design is not intuitive
More flexibility on health check endpoints
Responsiveness of website

Return on Investment

We moved from latency based load balancing to regional load balancing using traffic director and it's been a very good solution for our company
We had some negative impact due to our understanding of now the regional probes worked to determine heath of a given region
Dyn has been a stable provider for our business for many years.

Alternatives Considered

Amazon Route 53

Dyn has been or provider for many years but as we shift our business into AWS route 53 has become a contender for our DNS solution.

Support Rating

We have had to open very few tickets but when we have had to the response has been adequate

Usability

We haven't explored many other options but the ones we have looked at seem on par.

Likelihood to Recommend

It fits the bill for load balancing and DNS management. I'm not sure if it would be the best solution if you wanted to add custom code to assist in the routing of traffic.

I don’t anticipate a single grand unveiling of a new look and feel but rather a regular release of iterative improvements. A conversation with our wonderful Technical Support team might be able to get you a better outcome on the Health Check Endpoints issue. Once they understand your desired outcome they can be very helpful in thinking through how best to solve the challenge.
