Overall Satisfaction with Miro
Our organization would not work without Miro. The tool is mainly used for all collaborative meetings in our projects. However, we use it not only for exploratory ideation sessions for new products and features, but we also use it for complex planning & roadmapping tasks like PI Plannings in our SAFe-based projects. In Addition, we've also rolled Miro out to our product teams, for team-internal boards but also in depth product analysis, wireframes and UX sketches. Since the tool is so established in our organization, we've also developed custom best practices and templates that are used across all projects. Since our product teams & ARTs spend most of their time working remotely, the collaborative nature of Miro has really been a big help to ensure transparency & efficiency when working together in different places & time zones!
Pros
- Interactive workshop sessions (voting, brainstorming, prioritizing)
- Complex planning sessions & roadmapping (Sprint planning, PI Planning)
- In depth product analysis & exploration (UX pattern, Use Cases)
- Asynchronous communication &onboarding via talk track
Cons
- Recently: Seems like availability issues get more common
- License Mgt - Especially for teams from various companies. Too complicated & in some cases multiple licenses are required
- Missing: Folder structure for boards
- Animations for frame presentations
- Improved transparency: All team members can go back to planning boards to take a look at specific points
- Improved productivity for remote collaborative meetings: Time savings up to 50% compared to end to end communication
- Improved team empowerment: All product teams can adapt the tool to their needs
Since our team is distributed world wide across different time zones, Miro was a big help to enable seamless collaboration nonetheless. Especially features like talk-track, which enables asynchronous work on a single board, increased productivity and reduced the need for end to end meetings between different stakeholders. Additionally, also for hybrid meetings, we were able to improve productivity and transparency by using Miro, for remote- and onsite participants.
Although Miro got quite a lot more expensive, it's the best white boarding tool out there. We had a trial where we tried to use Microsoft Teams whiteboards instead but quickly stopped due to the lack of functionalities and poor performance. Compared to other more advanced white boarding software like Mural or Milanote we quickly landed on Miro due to the bigger number of use cases, huge template resources and overall easy of use.
