Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) is widely adopted by organizations to secure internet access and enforce web policies for their users, often replacing traditional VPNs and hardware appliances. It's frequently used to extend zero-trust models to remote workforces and serves as a central internet proxy. In TrustRadius reviews, its robust SSL inspection, comprehensive threat protection against malware and phishing, and granular URL filtering capabilities are consistently highlighted. These features enable consistent policy application across diverse locations and user types.

Reviewers also note ZIA's positive impact on business objectives through enhanced security posture and significant cost reductions by consolidating security infrastructure. However, the user interface is a recurring concern, with 8% of reviewers finding it complex, clunky, or dated, and logging features are described as lacking detail and ease of navigation. Despite these UI and logging challenges, the overall sentiment indicates ZIA effectively secures internet access and streamlines security operations.

  • Robust SSL inspection for encrypted traffic
  • Comprehensive threat protection against malware and phishing
  • Granular URL and content filtering capabilities
  • Flexible policy management for consistent application
  • Significant cost reduction by eliminating hardware appliances
  • User interface is complex, clunky, or dated
  • Logging features are difficult to navigate and lack detail
  • Performance issues, including slow GUI and log loading
  • Inconsistent console experience across Zscaler products
  • Difficulty exporting logs

Zscaler Internet Access....above and beyond the competition

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) and Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) are our main source of protection for our office and mobile workforce. With the ability to have consistent policies regardless of the users location, makes the management and ensurance of the efficacy of our users being protected on many levels.

With many 3rd-party integrations also being deployed within Zscaler, we are able to leverage additional capabilities with other security technologies we have in place.

Overall Zscaler Internet Access as a critical part of our infrastructure has provided us with peace of mind that we are able to provide the consistent level of security posture to our users.

Pros

  • Consitent policy across all users regardless of location
  • Inline SSL inspection for all traffic
  • Ability to scale very easily

Cons

  • More direct 3rd-party integrations with major security vendors
  • Ability to save queries when review logs
  • More intuiitve filtering/sorting for logs

Likelihood to Recommend

Large orginiazations with distributed users/locations that require consistent policy enforcement both for on/prem as well as remote access.

Where Zscaler Internet Access may fall short would be for those smaller companies which would still benefit from Zscaler Internet Access, however the justification may be a harder sell to deploy.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) to steer internet traffic on-prem and remote to Zscaler for web filtering protection. This helps prevents users from accessing sites they should not have access to. We also use ZIA to manage company devices as well as BYOD. Company devices cannot disable the ZCC so this ensures there is always protection on the managed device. For BYOD, users can disable the client

Pros

  • Web filtering protection
  • syncing with your AD environment
  • insight logs on where users are sending traffic too
  • Device Posture management

Cons

  • More features for mobile devices
  • Standard FW should have additional features
  • provide recommendations for misconfigs

Likelihood to Recommend

Zscaler is very simple to use and provides many options for different OS. Device posture management is very helpful in cases where you need to prevent users from disabling the client for managed devices. Zscaler URL filtering policy, SSL Bypass, and Categories are very simple to use.

I would recommend Zscaler to allow users to request the OTP via the client and send an automated response to the engineers to action on

Zscaler Internet Access helped me with my deployment

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Be able to filter malicious web content and allow the incident response teams to create custom web categories containing phishing, malicious, and other custom URLs. Get a single pane of glass that allows the security and the incident response teams to look at activities on devices that are both on prem, off prem, and other remote workers.

Pros

  • SSL decryption
  • Single pane of visibility
  • Pricing

Cons

  • GUI Complexity
  • Training availability
  • Ease of use

Likelihood to Recommend

Zscaler Internet Access makes deploying web filtering across the fleet quite easy, even without having an internal PKI in place. It allows security teams to quickly block threats across the fleet without expensive firewalls or edge firewalls that would ordinarily be needed in a traditional on prem deployment. That said, some of the UI could use some room for consolidation and improvement.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

we are using Zscaler Internet Access to help secure our users internet data exposure and enforce compliance to company policy. WE have had issues with staff accessing un secure sites under the pretence of trying to do work however this was not the case.

  • the training material is not great
  • having a high level overview of all platforms under one screen would help

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were looking for an SSE solution to have some scalability and potentially remove on premises firewalls. With a little over 30 locations Zscaler Internet Access was brought in to provide that frame of access and attempt to make it so that the home user experience matched the on site experience.

Pros

  • Use of URLs which is primarily what users are utilizing when going external
  • NRDs being a category that you can work with
  • Isolation Browser works fairly well with minimal interruption.

Cons

  • The logs feel kind of lack luster
  • When issues are arising with SSL Inspection, logs show everything working despite end user experience
  • Could use some kind of global find functionality or something that would allow you to search the entire configuration for matching URLs and the like

Likelihood to Recommend

Zscaler Internet Access is effectively a cloud firewall. It thrives best for traveling users that need a consistent experience as the multiple Service Edges around the world will help reduce the bottleneck and latency of VPNs hosted on firewalls. Also reduces the cost to spin up small locations that wouldn't necessarily need a firewall on site for Zonal traffic (this rings true for any SSE product). However troubleshooting this tool is a bit of a beast as previously mentioned - the logs are pretty minimal and the first reaction after perusing logs is typically to get a pcap file (which used to be a last resort for Network Engineers).
