Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Zoom was implemented to replace WebEx company wide. For the users, Webex was confusing to use. They always call in IT in a standby mode just in case they have issues with Webex.

Pros

  • Interface is extremely clean and easy to navigate
  • Support is amazing
  • Very quick turnarounds for product updates that address current issues

Cons

  • Audio quality sometimes missing the mark
  • Need to have integration partners who can help set up system in bigger conference rooms (ceiling mic, speakers, cameras, etc)

Return on Investment

  • Users no longer need IT hand-holding for every conference call

Alternatives Considered

Webex and BlueJeans

Other Software Used

Box, Microsoft Office 365, Zscaler Web Security, Imperva Skyfence

Zoom Rooms will save you time and money.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Zoom Rooms is primarily used in conference rooms. It solves the problem of unreliable and inconsistent conference room AV. The user experience is the same from room to room, floor to floor, and building to building. The hardware can be from different vendors but the interface and user experience is still the same.

Pros

  • Consistent Experience - the interface is familiar. Everyone already uses Zoom on their own devices and Zoom Rooms is an extension of that.
  • One touch join - very easy for anyone to start a meeting
  • Wireless screen sharing - no more worrying about dongles and adapters, easily share from any kind of device with one click
  • Fewer components which means there's less things that can fail or go wrong

Cons

  • Better QA between releases, especially with vendor partners, to ensure that features and capabilities that worked well before don't degrade when there are new releases.
  • Longer roadmap for hardware support, perhaps with less features and capabilities, vs. just dropping overall support. Give vendor partners options beyond the black and white.
  • Better support in medium to large rooms for "360" cameras. Up to 40 people. the larger rooms are where the immersive, hybrid experience breaks down because all of the people in the room appear as tiny dots for remote participants.

Return on Investment

  • Reduces friction for hybrid work which better engages employees
  • Reduces support costs
  • Lower initial upfront cost which allows for broader roll out

We began to use Zoom rooms pre-pandemic trying to refresh our aging AV meeting rooms fleet more democratic. During and Post-pandemic the urge to provide a more inclusive solution to support a growing demand for hybrid meetings got stronger.

Today, we have almost 1000 rooms equipped globally with a happy support team and even happier users ; our sponsors are happy too as it reduces the need for business travels.

Pros

  • Simplicity of use
  • Supports hybrid meetings (inclusive to remote participants)
  • Reliable (rock solid)
  • Back end dashboards

Cons

  • Updates to a diverse hardware fleet
  • Ease of experience for "companion" devices

Return on Investment

  • Supports a push for fewer business trips
  • User friendly
  • Elevates hybrid work
  • Standardization of the AV fleet therefore providing consistent experience regardless of location/hardware
  • My business stakeholders demands even more

Zoom Rooms works really well. Its best-in-class and does what it says on the tin.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Zoom Rooms was used from the time of Covid (or possibly even earlier) for video conferencing. We have 11 offices across the UK and it allows us to communicate with each other as well as our external customers. From an IT perspective, it is so much easier to setup and administer than Teams. It also performs better in terms of video & audio quality. Both are better than Teams using the same bandwidth.

Pros

  • Video quality
  • Audio quality
  • Ease of use (for users and IT alike)
  • Ease of setup
  • Ease of administration (IT)
  • Regular software updates (Zoom App and devices)

Cons

  • The system administration menus have so many options and levels! Could it be simplified?
  • Licencing could be made simpler to understand

Return on Investment

  • Improved collaboration
  • Allowed better internal communications
  • Allowed better contact with external customers
  • Saved travel time and costs (better for work-life balance and the environment)
