Categories & Use Cases

WPEngine - A great partner for Enterprises

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

WPEngine supports the hosting of over 7,000 sites for a variety of law firms in the United States for our company. WPEngine allows us to concentrate on design and digital marketing while they handle the management of the WordPress service for us. This includes the hardware and the WordPress install itself as they handle major, minor, and security upgrades to WordPress. In addition, they have an expert technician dedicated to our enterprise account that not only assists in the debugging of core WordPress issues but has been invaluable in debugging issues in plugins we have implemented and issues in our code performance.

Pros

  • Dedicated support
  • Innovation
  • Isolated Enterprise Hardware Environments

Cons

  • Does not have a secured key solution on their server
  • Not all portal features have API's to allow for automation

Most Important Features

  • Support/Uptime
  • Flexibility in hosting solutions depending on size of Install
  • Integrated APM with New Relic
  • Dedicated Technical Account Manager for Enterprise

Return on Investment

  • Reduced need to maintain owned Data Center
  • Allowed for reduction in support staff due to WPEngine expertise and support system

Alternatives Considered

Acquia Digital Experience Platform, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Pantheon and Adobe Experience Manager

Other Software Used

Cloudflare, Adobe Advertising Cloud, Google Analytics

Try it if you need it but you may move somewhere else since it's not the best

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

WP Engine filled the void for our immediate need for managed WordPress hosting. The support was lackluster at best. A few MySQL server outages were not noticed by their proactive monitoring. A handful of downtimes due to server outages and migrations outside their data center also occurred. Their best features were the backups and staging, which we often used. Support also tried to upsell us and tell us that their dedicated plans would be more stable and reliable, but I don't think it would've helped as much as they promised.

Pros

  • Managed hosting
  • Staging
  • Backups
  • Security
  • Control panel

Cons

  • Stability
  • Support
  • Features
  • Reliability

Most Important Features

Excellent platform for hosting and maintaining websites

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Hosting websites + website support, backing up sites, copying between production and staging environments on a regular basis, upgrading PHP versions, and consolidating a number of websites into one host platform. We also love the ability to jump right into the WP admin view from within our hosting platform. Their "go live checklist" feature was very useful when originally building our site.

Pros

  • Copying production environments to staging sites
  • Allowing for routine data backups
  • Customer support

Cons

  • Educating users on more of their features
  • Explaining page speed relative to search engine standards

Most Important Features

  • Website backups
  • Frequent copying of environments to one another

Return on Investment

  • Simplified web hosting
  • Quick upgrading of sites

WP Engine Blows the Competitors Out of the Water

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I've tried on most of the website hosting companies, and several years ago, I moved ALL my clients to WP Engine. By far, they are the best company to host a WordPress website, and I won't use anyone else. I know my stuff when it comes to WordPress, but every once in a while, I get stumped. Their tech support is always easy to reach and takes care of it every time. They're tightly integrated with Cloudflare, which helps to make my clients' sites safe from hackers and speeds them up at the same time.

Pros

  • Tech Support
  • Caching and Speed
  • Plugin Management

Cons

  • They recently switched from using the .htaccess file to using Web Rules in the console. The Web Rules give me a lot of power, but this has made me do quite a bit of extra work to make sure that the .htaccess security rules are properly implemented in the Web Rules, which isn't for the faint of heart. This also crippled the functionality of the security plug-in that I use.

Most Important Features

  • Security
  • Caching and Speed
  • Technical Support

Return on Investment

  • Combining Cloudflare with the WP Engine platform as well as their anti-hacker tools as well as my own has meant that none of my clients have ever been hacked. This is critical for my clients.

Alternatives Considered

GoDaddy, Bluehost and HostGator

Most Important Features

  • The User Portal does everything we need
