Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use WinZip in our corporate environment to help compress and encrypt large files for easier deployment and transfer. WinZip makes SW deployment much easier for our team to manage. This helps drastically in our Device Break/Fix processes where users need to be addressed quickly and efficiently, to be back up and running as soon as possible.

Pros

  • Compress files
  • Encrypt files
  • Cut down on the storage needed to send/share files

Cons

  • The new interface can be a little overwhelming at first if you are used to the old.
  • Too many choices in ancillary programs of WinZip

Likelihood to Recommend

Works great for sending files back and forth through email. Also works great with SW distribution/deployment.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

WinZip is the standard in my book for condensing and uncompressing large files. We use WinZip almos daily to compress large files before sending to clients and colleagues. Because WinZip is an industray standard, most all clients are familiar with the software and already have it installed.

Pros

  • Compresses files quickly and efficiently
  • Handles almost all types of files genres.
  • Transmits easily

Cons

  • Too many choices in ancillary programs of WinZip

Likelihood to Recommend

WinZip is best suited for the compression of files for transmission via email and web downloads. "Zip" files are an industry standard.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize WinZip to compress documents and provide password protection when emailing files to clients. Often, we have to send large files that house confidential information, and they are larger than 25 megs, so most email providers won't allow these files to be sent. With WinZip, those files can be encrypted and compressed, thereby safely securing the files and reducing their overall file size.

Pros

  • Compression
  • Encryption
  • Cost-effective retention.

Cons

  • Winzip used to be free.
  • There are extra fees for each additional package.
  • Only the Pro version has access to Corel PDF Fusion.

The standard suite will work for most users, but you have to upgrade to the pro suite or the unlimited suite in order to get the cloud sharing for multiple accounts. So, if you are looking at just sending documents from one user to another user, the standard version will work, but if you are trying to use it as a calibration software, you will need to upgrade all users to the more expensive version to unlock those features.
