We were looking to change the existing Signature-based EP Protection to an ML & AI cloud native Management solution. We found that WG EPDR is a best-of-breed solution, considering the option of Patch Management & Encryption management capabilities.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use WatchGuard Endpoint Protection (EPP) as a basic level of protection for all endpoints. We feel Endpoint Protection gives us better protection than traditional antivirus and it integrates with other WatchGuard products including Firewalls and MDR. Endpoint Detection provides alerts that are added to an internal security board and we are able to manage these as part of our standard support process.

  • Communicates with other WatchGuard products MDR, Firewalls for threat intelligence
  • Protects machines that are outside the protection of a traditional corporate firewall

Cons

  • More flexible reporting and the ability to remove details from the web activity of users

WatchGuard Endpoint Security is well suited in a hybrid work environment where users are not all in the office all of the time. Within the office they are protected by the corporate firewall but when out of the office or working from home EPP helps to protect them better than the traditional security a user has in their home. There are cheaper products which offer lesser protection in the market but we feel that EPP is the new standard.

We are currently using WatchGuard's Endpoint Security EDR solution in our laptops, securing 25 people machine's. The use case is for protecting daily workforce, covering full-time protection.

  • Complements Windows Defender very well

  • Reporting could be more detailed
  • Scans could be executed more times and advised to the user

I believe that Endpoint solutions from WatchGuard Endpoint Security are well suited for small and medium companies, due to its low cost and easy to use features and deployment. Additionally, the potential to extend protection over the other free endpoint solutions available.

We have it deployed on three Windows Servers and over 20 endpoints. Everything has been easy to manage once it's set up, although the setup process could be streamlined a bit.

  • Letting the admin know of any issues on end users.
  • Now additional advertising to end users for other products.

  • Setting up the admin side could be streamlined a bit.
  • Connecting licensing, or a better step by step process to do so.
  • Better clean up after a failed install.

Once installed, it seems to be working great. I've migrated three sites to use Watchguard EDPR, and as a result, I can monitor and control all three from a central location.

Watchguard Endpoint Security is installed on all computers and servers in the agency and in the datacenter. The Cloud console allow us to have a perfect vision of what happen in our infrastructure. A simple antivirus was not enough. We needed a real EDR and WatchGuard bring a full and powerfull solution for that.

Watchguard Endpoint Securty (WGEP) is used by all members of our organization as an all in one endpoint security solution. It is required to be installed on all work laptops as we are a full remote organization. WGEP performs constant scanning for viruses, blocks unwanted applications from being run, disables removable media, and prevents users from accessing malicious websites.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Currently, we use it as a proactive malware and anti-virus solution for our clients. It goes beyond the usual antivirus by giving detailed analysis and in-depth threat protection.

Pros

  • Zero trust platform works wells without much issue
  • It provides the ability to give web traffic reports based on the endpoint
  • It gives you the ability to assess/learn the environment through 3 stages to minimize false positives.

Cons

  • The exclusions seems to work 50% of the time
  • There are no silent updates. The computer needs to reboot every time with an EDPR banner displayed.
  • The cloud portal does not update in real time. Sometimes it takes up to 10 minutes to update.
  • Users are notified when an application EPDR does not is blocked and is being assessed but the user is not alerted when the application is approved or determined as goodware.

Likelihood to Recommend

We have had numerous instances of the cloud portal not updating and updates causing panic among users. This would cause an influx of tickets into our helpdesk. Users are not notified when an application is approved or determined as goodware and the exclusions tend to work only 50% of the time. It does perform really well as it pertains to zero trust and it does allow you to gradually learn the environment to avoid issues with 3 stages which are audit, hardening and lock mode.

We use Watchguard Endpoint Security as a lower cost alternative to Sophos products. We've found it to be an adequate replacement for customers who focus more on budget. Watchguard Endpoint Security offers a decent level of security for its price point but seems far less comprehensive to the Sophos alternative; which is out endpoint solution of choice.

We offer Watchguard Endpoint Security as a low cost alternative to Sophos Endpoint. As such, I would recommend this product to anyone with a customer with that same sort of mindset. It would also be appropriate for customers with a more 'basic' environment as configuring profiles is far less in depth compared to Sophos.
