Using Progress Telerik and Kendo UI for faster and more professional software development

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have different web applications that use grids, forms , and schedulers. Using Progress Telerik components, we simply used grids with templated, and a very good looking scheduler with many useful features. Communication of component with the backend using data source features are simple. In addition to these components we used cards and graphs as well.

Pros

  • Scheduler with the capability of changing time zone
  • Using grids with templates
  • Using a large number of smaller controls including dropdown lists

Cons

  • I have not worked with the App Builder but I think a GUI for dragging and dropping components to build a web page would be great.
  • In addition to the app builder there should some tools to design a responsive web application to see the results for different screen sizes.

Return on Investment

  • The development time went shorter
  • Good looking web application that attracts users

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We've used Progress Telerik for several MAUI and WinUI3 apps. We've found it very helpful for controls like rich text editing and tabs that seem common but for some reason do not have great tooling built-in (or in the community toolkit). So ultimately, we used Progress Telerik to plug the gap in several different platforms where the built-in tooling was not sufficient.

Pros

  • The Rich Text Editor on desktop is fantastic
  • The control styles are easy to customize
  • Controls work well out of the box while still allowing for a certain amount of customization

Cons

  • Native and community toolkit controls are more intuitive to customize. We found that if we are doing deep customization, Progress Telerik controls do not always behave the way you would expect.

Return on Investment

  • We've tried other third party controls (syncfusion, etc.) and burned significant time trying to get them to work. Progress Telerik is the only one that stuck. Developer time on this kind of thing is rather expensive, I don't have hard numbers but spending dozens of hours on a product that doesn't do what you want is not great.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use the Progress Telerik control libraries to save time and simplify development of ASP.NET MVC and Blazor applications, and we're moving into using the MAUI pieces as well. Some controls feel like overkill, since the packages include things like textboxes - which DO have some minor extra features, but not enough to switch them out in my opinion. But it also includes advanced ones such as image editors, popovers, cards, skeletons, graphs and so much more that save tons of time when we develop any kind of LOB application.

  • The written documentation could be better
  • Requires some slightly invasive changes when integrating

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use the Telerik UI ASP.Net AJAX controls on our intranet web-application software deployed to various automotive customers. The controls helped accelerate the creation of screens and dashboards with a consistent user experience. Further, the controls added features and functions without requiring boiler-plate code to be added (such as the Grid control providing filtering, sorting, and paging right out of the box without any additional code work). Other controls (such as the Tree Drop Down), provide great user experience with little to no additional customization required to get the web control to behave / present in the fashion we need. Finally, the demos from Telerik provide excellent references for determining how to do things. The only draw back is on the documentation side, where if you step out of the demo examples, it can be difficult to find the information you need on the document site, and determine what and why you need to something special. Overall, I would emphatically recommend the use of Telerik UI controls to vastly improve the UI experience for your end-users, and accelerate the development time involved in creating the User Interface screens.

  • The documentation site (not the demo site) sometimes leaves something to be desired, particularly if you are stepping out of the 90% usage scenarios.

Most Important Features

  • Controls come with a lot of built in features. For example, the Grid control has built-in Filtering, Sorting and Paging for data.
  • Great demos that showcase a variety of usage scenarios
  • Cost-effective bundles providing a wide range of platforms to use and implement similar functionality.

Return on Investment

  • Documentation site is somewhat lacking. So if you step out of the usage scenarios of the demos, you will find the learning curve steep.
