good sollution for running SAP workloads
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We're running our SAP application servers and Hana databases exclusively on Suse products. Our application servers on SLES, our Hana databases on SLES for SAP. So far, I've been impressed by the ease of use of Suse products. The documentation from Suse and SAP covered almost every problem I ran into so far, and the few problems I wasn't able to solve were promptly handled by suse support.
Pros
- the learning curve and setup time are very reasonable
- the support engineers are fast, friendly, polite and know what they're doing
- the quality of the documentation is very high
Cons
- sometimes it takes too long for new versions of packages to appear in SUSE's repositories
- some open-source solutions that are valuable don't end up in the official repo at all (but you can install them from the OpenSUSE repo)
- sometimes niche topics aren't covered in the documentation
Most Important Features
- competent support staff
- good documentation
- competitive pricing
Return on Investment
- none so far
