Square POS is worth the hype

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use square to sell tickets to our events on-site at the venue.

Pros

  • Instills confidence from the buyer
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to train others to use
  • Real-time updates on tickets sold and revenue made

Cons

  • The swipe functionality worked more often than the chip card functionality
  • It would be nice if buys could just sign-in to their Square account to purchase with pre-saved data

Most Important Features

  • Ease of use
  • Security
  • Access to funds

Return on Investment

  • We were able to sell significantly more on-site tickets
  • Our attendees felt safer giving us their credit card at the the events and so we saw an uptick in on-site sales
  • On-site sales brought in higher revenue so the easier we made that option for attendees the more we brought in

Great Middle Ground POS System!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Currently, I use Square POS to track clients, send invoices, sell one-time services and keep track of the sales that my business does. The business problems the products address are communication with clients and to provide receipts/invoices they can use on their end of business finance purposes.

In the past, I’ve used it in restaurant settings with a more hands-on aspect to the product gallery, printing receipts, etc.

Pros

  • Offers a variety of products and services
  • Invoice design and layout is nice
  • Customizable options are nice

Cons

  • Too much going on for simple users. There are so many different apps and pages now that I get lost almost every time I log onto Square
  • The high percentage of fees taken from sales
  • The difficulty in changing default settings
  • The layout of the “website” you can create is truly a nightmare

Most Important Features

  • Invoices
  • Customization of invoices/receipts
  • Product gallery

Return on Investment

  • Negative: Honestly, it takes a lot off the top of sales I make, which is challenging for a small business.
  • Positive: it has made setting up invoices quick and simple, especially when they need to be recurring and/or have reminders sent. This has saved me time!
  • Positive: Being able to customise the invoices and receipts is great and adds a personal level to it.

Perfect compact portable POS

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Square in two businesses. In my full time job, we use the card reader that attaches to your mobile phone for selling books at our dinner seminars and other events. For my part time work I purchased a card reader that sits on my desk. I use them both for keeping track of inventory and retail sales.

Pros

  • Their devices are compact and easily moved from one place to another.
  • It is simple to use. The learning curve is small.
  • It is perfect for a small business as their is no up front cost with the free chip card reader.
  • You can enter all of your inventory into the app on your phone. Also accessible on a desktop.

Cons

  • When we first used it we had some issues with the phone attached card reader not reading the cards so we had to manually input the card numbers.
  • We had some technical difficulties with connection in the beginning with the phone attached reader but we only had that issue the one time.
  • Phone support at the time the above happened was not available.

Most Important Features

  • Mobility is top feature
  • Sleek and compact
  • Inventory Tracking

Return on Investment

  • We have been able to sell 80% more books at our events since getting Square. No one carries cash anymore or rarely.
  • I have been able to sell anywhere I am by having it. I can throw it in my purse and be able to take an order for any of my handmade retail products no matter where I am.
