Categories & Use Cases

Everything in one place

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I’ve been using Shift for about 6yrs. It was appealing because I am a contractor and have several different email accounts, both personal and business. Going between browser tabs or email applications was a huge time suck, not to mention slowing down my computer.Shift allows me to have my 6 email accounts all on one application, easy to view, easy to switch between and all in one place.I also utilize many of their plugins like WhatsApp web so I can add even more functionality to my space. Often times I can work just within Shift and reduce my distractions on outside browsers and tabs.

Pros

  • Keeping all inboxes in one place
  • Organizing workspaces for different projects
  • Integrating 3rd party apps like WhatsApp

Cons

  • Providing the entirety of the gmail suite would be nice
  • Updates that sync with other email providers like gmail, MS, etc.
  • Adding more apps to the list, including more AI related apps.

Return on Investment

  • Keeping all my inboxes in one place so I can easily shift between them 1000% increases my productivity
  • reducing the number of browser and application tabs helps keep my computer running quicker.
  • I can easily see the number of emails in each inbox and prioritize accordingly throughout the day.

Maximizing Efficiency with Shift

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I manage more than one email account for my organization, and Shift allows me to keep both accounts visible. The unread email count is especially helpful for keeping up with each account. I also appreciate that I can access Slack and other productivity apps from within one window. The Google integrations allow for greater efficiency, and I appreciate being able to see new information at a glance.

Pros

  • Organize my digital workspace
  • Notify new messages
  • Provide quick and easy access to my most-used digital tools

Cons

  • The browser doesn't always work. Some websites refuse to load, and others time out too quickly. It is not as strong or robust a web browser as Chrome.
  • Unread counts are not always accurate.
  • I wish I could set up Google Suite products as separate workspaces.

Return on Investment

  • I manage multiple email accounts with accuracy and efficiency.
  • I stay on top of notifications across multiple platforms.
  • I feel better equipped to respond to messages and find relevant information within my digital workspaces.

Happy OG Shift user for 9 years

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I've been a Shift user since 2016 and have seen it go through a lot of changes, some for the better and others for the worst. Originally, I was working for a company that hosted its email service with Google and signed up for it in search of a way to switch between multiple personal and work-related Gmails and Google Drives more seamlessly. That remains one of the main reasons I still keep paying for it today. I also love that it keeps me signed into multiple other SAASs, apps, social media accounts, etc. that I use for my work (now as an owner of multiple businesses) at the same time so that I don't have to keep those tabs open in the non-Shift browsers that I use. I do not use some of the newer features that Shift offers, such as the Workspaces and its web-browsing capabilities. In my brain, Shift has always been an "anti-browser" of sorts, so using it as such seems counterintuitive. And since I don't have a need to separate all my accounts across different contexts and work, I don't find the Workspaces helpful. Otherwise, it's a brilliant tool and one I'm planning to continue using for years to come.

Pros

  • Allows for seamless and less sign-in complications across multiple Google accounts.
  • Eliminates the need to keep a bunch of different tabs in a browser open.
  • Keeps me signed into over 10 different applications that I use on a daily basis.

Cons

  • We should have the ability to disable "Workspaces".
  • Shift is an anti-browser, so it shouldn't try to become the problem that it initially set out to solve.
  • On several different occasions, some issues have arisen where I'm either locked out of a certain app, or I get stuck in a sign-in loop (likely due to Shift NOT being my primary browser). In those cases, I've had to reach out to Shift support, who have advised me to delete and re-add an app using the "custom link" feature.

Return on Investment

  • I don't have specific numbers, but I imagine the tool has probably saved me quite a bit of time and helped me to be more efficient over the last 9+ years of using it.
  • Less stress around having to go through Google's rigmarole of signing in and out of different accounts in order to access different drives, calendars, inboxes, etc.
  • It generally helps my digital workspaces and desktops feel less cluttered with multiple windows and apps open.

Best app for my MacBook Pro that brings all my apps into one dashboard for ease of management and access with one click

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Hands down the best organizational app on my MacBook Pro! I've been a loyal Shift user since 2021 on the Advanced plan and have enjoyed the experience. I particularly find being able to connect multiple Gmail Email Accounts and managing them from one dashboard super useful and efficient. Since I didn't want to buy Microsoft Outlook or Office 365 for mac, it really helped me make Gmail feel more native to the MacBook Pro. I really like how Shift has consistently improved the User Experience and had rebranded making it even more streamlined to use. I love an app that is useful and looks great too. I connect a variety of other apps and websites as well so that I can have quicker access to them without having to launch a separate browser and have a bunch of extra windows open on my Mac where screen space is limited as it is. If you're a person who wants to make life easier with organizing apps and having a central location to access a variety of services SHIFT is for you! I for one will be a lifetime customer as it's just been great for my workflow.

Pros

  • Connects Gmail Email Accounts with ease
  • Makes it easy to organize a variety of apps in one dashboard
  • Unclutters your desktop with less Browser tabs and windows open at one time
  • Connects to other Productivity apps with one click
  • Acts as a central hub for all app productivity usage saving time

Cons

  • Have to re-authenticate Gmail after a perhaps a week or so or sometimes a few days - Doesn't always happen but this is probably more because of the Google API and less to do with SHIFT
  • I still use Chrome Browser separately for Wordpress websites because of the Dev Tools and being a web developer but for normal users who just browse the web it's great. But perhaps adding some dev tools into the web browser portion of the app would be nice

Return on Investment

  • Certainly improved stress with less cluttered screen real estate
  • Quicker access to apps I use everyday without having to constantly login separately
  • Adds a few hundred a month to my bottom line due to being more productive and less stressed which allows me to get more done and invoice more.

Shift is a lifesaver

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I white label for several organizations which means I use their email address on their domain vs my organization. That also means I keep calendars on their system. This allows me to look at all emails and calendars in one fell swoop. No signing in or out. No mixing up emails/calendars. It is a life saver. I couldn't do what I do without this tool.

Pros

  • Consolidate email in a quick view
  • Stay signed in to all emails/calendars
  • Use and stay signed in to various applications

Cons

  • Always like more app integrations
  • More email integrations
  • More calendar integrations

Return on Investment

  • Increased productivity
  • Decreased time spent on looking through emails
  • Ease of communication with clients
