Overview
Synthesised from 5 reviews | Last Published April 24, 2026
This product overview is based on a synthesis of 5 recent reviews analyzing software regularly used alongside Semrush and reviewer likelihood to recommend those tools. The review sample size is small, so findings should be considered directional. Semrush appears to be used in conjunction with other SEO and design tools. Specifically, Canva and Screaming Frog SEO Spider were each mentioned by two reviewers. The reviewers mentioning these tools leaned towards recommending them, suggesting positive experiences with these complementary tools, but the small sample size warrants caution in generalizing this sentiment.
Pros
Integration with Canva for design workflows
Compatibility with Screaming Frog SEO Spider for in-depth site analysis
Semrush was instrumental when we moved a large site over to a new domain. It provided us critical information on the health of our site during that process. It also allowed us to optimize our content to rank higher on search engines. SemRush is very comprehensive and packed with great tools that sets you up for future improvements on your site.
Pros
Key word research
Competitive analysis
On page SEO
Cons
Tutorials and knowledge base
Back link audits
Customer Service
Likelihood to Recommend
I think Semrush is great for midsize companies. It is pricey tool for smaller businesses so make sure it’s something you will get a full use out of by starting up the free version.

Employee in Information Technology (Paper & Forest Products company, 51-200 employees)
In this role, I used Semrush for keyword research to help determine Article topics for the editorial team Headers, title tags, meta data, and body copy for "core" informational landing pages on the site Keyword-rich templated title tags and headers for e-commerce pages I also used it to track and report on rankings for high-value keywords and those we selected/incorporated. Additionally, I used it to track our competitors' rankings for those same keywords. I also used it for higher-level industry research to get a better idea of the competitive landscape. Occasionally I used the platform to look at site health metrics and other technical data, but not on a super consistent basis.
Pros
Great visuals for keyword position tracking, love that you can see the page that is ranking
Enjoyed the auto-generated reporting feature (specifically in the context of keyword position tracking)
Shows many different and useful views for competitive research
Great templated keyword research tools for those who are not as hands-on with SEO
I LOVE the Keyword Magic Tool for honing in on longtail, high-opportunity keywords
Cons
The auto-generated reports don't get nearly as specific with drilled-down info as I would like. It seems the options are broad but shallow. Especially compared to how good some of the visuals and tables are in-app.
Some of the views/research features (like Organic Research/Keyword Gap) are a little redundant in my opinion.
I wish keywords for Position Tracking weren't so expensive
Some of the keyword data from Google - like volume - is slow to update, so you may be seeing data that is weeks old, which in certain scenarios can be a hindrance.

Semrush is not perfect, but in my experience, it's the one-size-fits-most SEO tool I would recommend to almost anyone (who works on a team/does not mind upgrading to a paid version). It's great for diverse teams - there are features that are basically plug and play, like the Content Marketing tools, that may be good for some team members, while more experienced SEOs can find a lot of value as well from research tools like the Domain Overview tool to take a deep dive into competitors. I'd say research and tracking functions are where Semrush shines. The reporting features will get the job done, but a lot of the data views are much more restricted in the generated reports than they are in-app, which I found annoying. I got a lot of questions in meetings about what some reporting data meant because the options were limited - ie, a "competitor organic performance" metric that was only month-over-month, and super vague, whereas in the app you could look at week-over-week, drill down on metrics, etc. The free version is just okay. I recommend this more for someone whose team is willing to pay for at least the Business level. A lot of the better, more unique functions, like Position Tracking for more than 10 keywords, costs more.
Semrush keeps our SEM and SEO teams in sync with each other and provides a wealth of keyword, technical, and competitor intelligence. We previously used Semrush as an 'add-on' for other tools, but it has transitioned to our primary tool. An enterprise-level account has the added advantage of API access, which is another great feature of Semrush. We also use the organic research component very frequently to find out information about our own domain, as well as competitors'. The SEM team uses the paid search intelligence modules in Semrush to gain competitor knowledge as well as industry benchmarks.
Pros
Competitor intelligence
API access
Organic keyword research
Cons
Limits of account (ie. # keywords, etc)
Distinction between projects and research
Competitor identification
Likelihood to Recommend
Semrush is excellent when you know a site that you want to get info on (ie. competitors). It is less effective in identifying the sites you should look at (but this is just a difficult thing in general to automate). Semrush is also great for keyword research when you know a general topic area and need keyword ideas around that topic.

Semrush is ideal for a variety of scenarios. I've used it at marketing agencies, as part of freelance work, and as part of an in-house marketing team. The beauty of Semrush is that it's scalable, so whether you're an individual, a small company, or a large organization, you can find value with the tool. It's the best SEO software solution I've used.
Our marketing department uses Semrush for digital marketing and content management purposes. We use it to track and select SEO keywords, manage our local citations, write compelling and keyword-driven content and manage our social media presence. The analytics we get through Semush help us make better decisions about our website content and social media. We like how we can manage so many different aspects of our marketing initiatives through one platform rather than paying for multiple software.
Pros
Presenting data in an easy to access, understandable way
Accessible and thorough keyword research
The Content Marketing tool is great for developing blogs and product pages
Cons
The interface is busy and somewhat hard to navigate
They could add more training/help on how to use all the features/tools
The listing management tool doesn't always update information correctly
Likelihood to Recommend
I think that Semrush is an excellent resource for content marketing. Whether you are at a small company or an agency handling multiple companies/websites, the resources and insight provided through the SEO and Content Marketing tools are super helpful.
If you are at a smaller company, the cost of a subscription may outweigh the benefits you get. Depending on the scale of your marketing and content efforts, you may not be able to use all of the tools to their full ability.

We use SEMRush to monitor and adjust the usability of our company website in order to preserve the flow for those who search for us and our long-time users. It allows us to see where we rank in the searchability and how easy it is to use our website. It identifies broken links and repetitive links or pages on our website.
Pros
Tracks the broken links
search-ability factoring
ease of use for the website
Cons
Huge learning curve
not the most user friendly of products
hard to understand formatting
Likelihood to Recommend
It is great for finding out how your website search results rank. Great for finding broken links and repetitive issues on websites. Not good for beginners.
SEMRush is used by the digital marketing department and it helps in several different areas. First, it's useful for competitor research in organic and paid search. SEMRush provides a great historical view on the traffic from these sources and we can correlate it with the marketing efforts of our competitors in different channels to see how those efforts affected their organic search positions.
Pros
Historical traffic data: SEMRush goes a lot further back than majority of other tools in the traffic from Organic and Paid Search.
Closest competitors research: in SEMRush you can look up your own up and coming competitors as well as competitors of your business partners.
Keyword research: SEMRush provides the list of keywords of your competitors in Paid Search and Organic Search and it helps to get ideas on which keywords to focus our own marketing efforts.
Cons
SEMRush is not as good in backlink analysis.
Likelihood to Recommend
Great for competitor research, keywords research and historical traffic information. Not so good for backlink research.
