Lessonly Makes Training a Breeze

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

At first we needed a tool to help us with our more non-technical support staff for our cyber security (products) company. When we initially launched, our team of 25 was almost all technical and understood the importance of cyber security. When we hired more support staff, including sales, they did not necessarily have the technical background to understand the importance of "Zero Trust" and good cyber security hygiene. We needed tools to both explain our products without a shadow of a doubt to them so they are confident in what they're saying, but also for onboarding in general, without it coming across as us being 'paranoid' or over-bearing as it touched upon sensitive subjects such as what they did on social media. The Skills module was terrific for this. In addition, we ended up using it to train teams across countries about business culture and how they differed and how to respect each other's work habits in ways that didn't damage morale or productivity. This last item became even more paramount when we moved everyone remote. There are few software products that are such "nice to haves" and Lessonly tops that list for us. We use it with customer training, sales, onboarding new hires, and may expand this even further.

Pros

  • Training tracking
  • Building integrated lessons that don't feel like "training"
  • Able to build your own certificates (great for training and internal rewarding)
  • Can watch in real time - progress monitoring

Cons

  • Sometimes reviewing lessons is a pain, according to some of our employees
  • Search is not robust enough just yet
  • Want to provide feedback during the loop for future training - have to do it in a different file which breaks the flow
  • Couple of minor bugs - probably fixed by now

Likelihood to Recommend

If you are onboarding new employees or consultants and you have a complex product, solution, or your business is layered and complex, this can help distill down the layers into basics so that new team or partners can build their knowledge base up the right way. This ensures they are learning what needs to be learned, and not what they surmise or assume, which can be incorrect and cause issues down the road - this is especially sensitive in our field. Training of all kinds can be done easily with this tool.

Lessonly is great for compliance and training!

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Lessonly is being used as a lesson tool for a client of ours and it has made it so much easier to understand the company and go through their training. The lessons are informative and can be made quickly to give updates and training to employees and our team. The software allows everyone to have up-to-date information quickly.

Pros

  • Making training videos is easy with Lessonly.
  • Makes passing training information along very easy.
  • Good clean interface.
  • Easy to learn quickly.
  • Great way to disseminate and require employees to read and confirm new policies.

Cons

  • Sometimes it is hard to find past training videos.

Likelihood to Recommend

Lessonly is great. I have been very happy with using it to watch and check on training videos and policy updates. Especially in industries that require strict messaging, this has been very helpful to know if everyone has finished the training video.

Lessonly for Business

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it on behalf of our client companies. These clients include retail businesses that train employees on products, processes, etc. It is also used/recommended as part of our Responsible Vendor Training program/certification. It is easy to use and we are a referral so our clients get a discount and we get a referral fee.

Pros

  • Easy to use and manage
  • Support is excellent

Cons

  • The bundle pricing could be better, having to pay for groups of 25 can be tricky.

Likelihood to Recommend

Lessonly can be used in any industry. Our clients are retailers, producers, cultivators, and project managers and it works great for all of them. I recommend it to all of our clients when we are in our negotiation and implementation processes. I really don't see a scenario where it isn't appropriate.

Beginner at Lessonly

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it to make explanations about different departments and their jobs and also to explain processes. We create the lessons so the new members can have a permanent source to go to every time they have issues or need an explanation over again because the process is not clear for them. It's pretty useful and we are still learning the best way to implement it for our onboarding members.

Pros

  • The organization
  • The way of assigning lessons

Cons

  • Better and more user friendly way to create a lesson
  • More intuitive for creating lessons

Likelihood to Recommend

It is well suited everywhere you can make it relevant to the situation. Mostly, to give explanations about something. I cannot think about a less appropìate place.

Review from a fairly new user of Lessonly

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use lessonly in our department at the office to make lessons explainaing the different topcis and tools we work with. These lessons are then used by new employees to learn about the various topcis during their onboarding, or for existing employees to refresh their knowledge on a specific topic.

Pros

  • A good flow to a lesson
  • The feature of quizzing

Cons

  • I'd like to make it easier to change colors of text
  • I'd like to more easily put in emojis / gifs

Likelihood to Recommend

Lessonly is good for teaching people about certain topics, in a way where they can go through it on their own time and then talk about it with their manager later. It is less appropriate for when teaching a group of people on a topic at the same time in a meeting setting.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The Operations Team in my company decided to implement Lessonly to do the onboarding of new employees and for knowledge retention in general. At the moment, only Operations use it, but other departments are considering using it too.

Pros

  • The search feature is excellent.
  • You can record your screen.

Cons

  • Creators sometimes forget to set an expert for the Lesson. I wish we could set this as mandatory before publishing.
  • Formatting the text could be a bit simpler, specifically changing the font color.

Likelihood to Recommend

Suitable for onboarding and knowledge retention.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Lessonly is currently used in one department in the company with the plan to expand to other departments. We have many employees onboarding so Lessonly helps make the process more efficient, especially for overseas employees.

Pros

  • Easy to track the performance of the team or an individual student.
  • Intuitive UI.

Cons

  • Customization of the roles.
  • More text editing features.

Likelihood to Recommend

Works really well for onboarding new employees. Can also be used to gather all the knowledge and skills for managers with expertise.

Love Lessonly!

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It started with one departments, but has expanded to five or six. It's primarily for internal training and sales enablement - staff needs training on our product, market, processes, sales methodologies and tools when hired, and they also need to be updated frequently. We use Lessonly for most of these needs - occasionally we just provide a document, but if we need people to ingest information in a specific order, if we need to quiz them, if we need to track what they've learned when, we use Lessonly.

Pros

  • Extremely easy to learn - so we can allow HR to build their own trainings, engineering to build theirs, etc. with very little training.
  • Extremely easy to edit - so we can make changes on the fly.

Cons

  • API should include more comprehensive data.
  • I'd like more sophisticated tracking of the learning program (they are working on this now).

Likelihood to Recommend

Great for:
1. Creating quick, simple training that may need changes.
2. Embedding videos, audio, documents, images.
3. Tracking who has done what.
4. Quick assessments.

Like any LMS, the efficacy of Lessonly depends on the quality of content added - garbage in, garbage out.

Don't Worry, Get Lessonly!

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are a K-12 school photography company who hires temps for the busy seasons and this used to be a large burden on our full-time staff. With Lessonly, we can assign paths for the new hires to go through and be ready to hit the ground running in a relatively short amount of time. The full-time staff is there to answer any questions they may have, but for the most part they are free to concentrate on other tasks at hand as the season ramps-up. Productivity increases because the full-time staff is not being pulled away for almost a full week to train new hires. We use Lessonly for all of our departments: Marketing, Photographers/Studio, Data Accuracy, School Support, etc. It takes a little while to build a beautifully engaging Lessonly, but totally worth it!

Pros

  • Organizing lessons into comprehensive paths for an effective work flow
  • Easy to build/create lessons for all types of jobs that are engaging

Cons

  • Lacks some flexibility in the type of items that can be used in a lesson
  • When adding a new learner, the email response with the Lessonly link is slow

Likelihood to Recommend

Lessonly can be used anywhere a digital learning system works. We use a mix of hands-on training and curriculum. For training our photographers, they go through the lessons with a camera on the desk to test with and tangibly learn what they are reading. Same with our production teams, we have physical representations of the camera cards and order forms that they will be dealing with on a daily basis to help solidify the training they are receiving from Lessonly. It frees up our full-time staff to get prepared for the new season. Once the new hires are done with their assigned lessons, they are ready to start shadowing staff. All of the training and shadowing is done in one day and they are ready to hit the ground running on day two! Lessonly has greatly increased our productivity.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

After our Sales department showed initial interest, Lessonly was chosen as the Learning Management System for all of Customer Care. We were looking for a way to standardize our training across our four international offices. We also wanted a way to streamline agent onboarding for smoother hiring as our company is growing quickly. Before Lessonly, our training was Adhoc (lots of sitting and reading) and based significantly on a lot of "tribal" knowledge.

We currently have only used it in our U.S. office with both new hires and existing agents. We've received great feedback from tenured agents who say it's improved their existing knowledge/kept them up to date, and our new hires are scaling quicker than ever. We plan to start implementing it in our offices in France, India, and Germany in early 2020.

Seeing the success of Lessonly with Customer Care, the Sales department has renewed our interest in the product after initially going a different direction.

Pros

  • It helps us keep training content concise. The standard font and size help our training Lead, and Managers get a real view of exactly how much our agents have to learn.
  • The templates provided helped us get started on the right foot. They were full of great format examples as well as actual tips for our Customer Care team. It made the "mountain" of work more surmountable.

Cons

  • I would love to have an undo button. A few times, the team has accidentally clicked on the delete button for a section and lost a section of work. We learned our lesson and have typed out text sections elsewhere and then just copy/pasted it into Lessonly.
  • A separate image gallery would make organizing easier. For now, it displays the images in the order they were imported.

Likelihood to Recommend

Lessonly has helped us make training/onboarding easier. However, I would not recommend it as a replacement for 1:1 training sessions with real coworkers. There is a lot that can be "lost in translation," especially for international offices that do not share the same language or even cultural references. The add ons have been beneficial, but I would not recommend doing away with ticket workshops/real-life practice.
