What is ScreenFlow?

Telestream in Nevada City offers ScreenFlow, a video editing and screen recording application for Mac boasting a range of editing tools, graphics and effects, and easy video sharing.

The best tool for novice and advanced users to make clean and crisp screen recordings

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

ScreenFlow has been the easiest screen capture tool to use compared to any other that I've tried. There is an ease of recording making simple or more complex edits that other tools seem to lack. I'm able to quickly put together tutorial videos, edit social media videos, resize videos and more. ScreenFlow has been the go-to tool for our customer support to record short screencast videos to send to customers.

Pros

  • Ease of recording and exporting to different file types
  • Editing options to have smooth looking transitions and zoom ins
  • Simple and intuitive features that make it a quick video editor for any kind of video

Cons

  • Dual cam recording, recording your screen and web cam at the same time

Return on Investment

  • ScreenFlow has allowed us to quickly make tutorial videos and GIFs for customers
  • We use elements made in ScreenFlow in our webinars and product overview videos

ScreenFlow Works for Me

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

ScreenFlow is our primary video creation and editing software We use others, but for most projects, it’s our go-to application. The preponderance of use cases in our organization revolve around the development of training videos, both for internal and external clients. Some of the secondary uses are for testimonials and product videos.

Pros

  • Timeline scrubbing works well
  • Integration of type and other graphical elements
  • Useful built-in resource library
  • Simple creation of transitions

Cons

  • Limited capacity for animation
  • The controls for turning off and on video and sound on individual tracks function inconsistently
  • Precise clip edits are difficult in the clip editor
  • ScreenFlow does not alert the user when an action creates a problem. You don’t find out until you try to save your project.

Return on Investment

  • This is a low cost license, so the output is almost entirely to the upside
  • Years ago, we determined it was essential to have a video representation of our products and services. ScreenFlow has enabled the development of these and many other videos as well as our training programs for employees and clients. All this has been accomplished with a relatively low cost to entry.

ScreenFlow for your workflow

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it get recordings of navigating on our organization's website and Canvas modules for online courses. We are cutting down on the load of student services calls from students, parents, and teachers on how to use the website and the Canvas platform.

Pros

  • Hide/reveal mouse cursor
  • Callouts on parts of the screen
  • Ability to edit within the software
  • Zoom ins at high res

Cons

  • Be able to open working projects in other editing software like Premiere. In cases that editors want that flexibility or someone doesn't have access to ScreenFlow but needs to work on projects that use it
  • Only available for Macs. Some of our teachers have PC and prefer to work on that or used to it. Only reason we switched to another screen recording application
  • Files are huge

Return on Investment

  • Ease of use for editors and teachers if on Mac
