Scale Computing Platform has replaced our previous environment which was a mixture of physical servers and a different, more complicated virtual environment. The previous environment was harder to use, and used quite a bit more energy, which once caused a power surge that forcefully powered down everything. Since switching to Scale Computing Platform, the environment is easy to use and manage, we have lower electricity costs, and any issues that have occurred were handled quickly and easily by support. We recently replaced our Scale Computing Platform cluster with a newer version, and the process was seamless.
Pros
Simplicity - I do not have to create storage buckets or micromanage anything.
Efficiency - Lower power use since moving to a hyperconverged environment.
Scalability - Adding additional hardware is easy, and increasing things like the amount of RAM or number of cores is easy.
Cons
I would like to see an option to schedule updates to occur outside of business hours without manual intervention.
The used disk space gauge for each VM is not accurate.
The virtio drivers worked rather poorly with the anti-virus product we recently switched to. We had to switch drivers.

Honestly, I can't imagine a scenario in which I would not want to continue using a hyperconverged environment like this. It's scalable, so it could work for a larger environment than mine. I guess if your environment is too small to justify the cost of a small cluster then this would not be the solution for you.

We use the hyperconverged VM system to virtualize almost 100% of our servers. The VM interface is easy to learn and very easy to create and maintain virtual servers. We have about 25 servers running in three clusters of varying sizes. The snapshot backups have given us more security in knowing our data is protected. Additionally having offsite backup locations allows for the snapshots to be stored in a different Scale Computing Platform cluster in case of a physical disaster. We have worked with Scale Computing Platform over 10 years and still have some of the original nodes in use though they will be replaced soon. The best summary I can give you is that it just works!
Pros
Hyperconverged Systems
Snapshot Technology
Offsite, Remote cluster connections for additional protection
Customer Support is with live people in the USA and very quick to help resolve any issue or questions you may have.
Cons
I would like to see a cloud storage option for snapshots.
An option to add a NAS for snapshot storage only.
Perhaps a buy back option to reduce the cost of upgrading original equipment.

We have used Scale Computing Platform of over 10 years and their product has never failed us. When I have ran into an issue, support has been very quick to resolve the issue and keep us moving smoothly. The snapshot technology has given us confidence we can recover whenever a ransomware attack may come or any other Disaster Recovery as needed.

We use Scale Computing Platform for almost all of our Windows server systems (we still have one legacy system). I was introduced to Scale Computing Platform about 9 years ago and we have since been through and upgrade and a complete hardware replacement . We are currently planning on upgrading the hardware again next spring. Ease of use and outstanding technical support is why we stick with them.
We have SQL servers, Remote Desktop Servers and an Exchange Server all running on the Scale Computing Platform.
Pros
You can easily spin-up an new server in a very short period of time.
Technical support is excellent.
Adding storage to a virtual machine takes just a few clicks. No need to worry about LUNS , etc.
Cons
I would like to have different options for virtual hardware

We have a small shop and only need a handful of VMs. Scale Computing Platform is cost effective and very easy to manage. Our 3 person IT staff is able to pretty much set and forget it. Updates are very simple to perform and non-disruptive to production, and support is great. They are fast and courteous. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with our Scale Computing Platform implementation.
Pros
Simplicity. Scale Computing Platform is super easy to implement. The hyperconverged hardware is ready to go out of the box
Reliable. The hardware is rock solid and redundant
Easy to Manage. Simple web interface, easy updates that can be done during production without any interruptions.
Cons
Scale Computing Platform might be a little too simplistic in some areas, such as networking.

For small to medium IT teams, Scale Computing Platform is amazing. You can get up and running in no time. Things just work. Support is fantastic. Management is simple. I have no doubt that you can scale to larger enterprise environments as well, but there might be some management concerns at large scale. Coming from VMWare, Scale Computing Platform is different, so there is a learning curve. It's not very steep, it just requires some getting used to. Once you understand the concepts, it's all very logical.

Scale Computing Platform has been great for our school system. We run servers including domain controllers, deployment servers, file servers, print servers, etc. These all run very fast and reliably. The Scale Computing Platform solution replaced a mix of VMWare servers and standalone servers. Having everything in a single platform minimizes work effort.
Pros
Speed. This platform is extremely fast with enough hard drives and memory.
Reliability. In over 5 years of use, we've only had 1 memory chip go bad.
Support. Support has been great!
Cons
Initial setup could take a little work. Once it's running though, it's great!
The cost could be prohibitive for some organizations (especially school systems).
Likelihood to Recommend
The Scale Computing Platform is well suited for a school system where tech resources are often spread thin. Little maintenance is required and the product just works consistently.

We use Scale Computing Platform as our production hypervisor platform to manage 20-40 VMs. We migrated to Scale Computing Platform when we upgraded our data center and decided not to continue with VMWare. Scale Computing Platform offered a simpler, faster, cheaper and compared to our previous environment a more robust solution while providing us a U.S. based single-plane of support (server hardware, hypervisor & Acronis backup solution).
Pros
We saw a significant improvement VM performance
The ease & simplicity of management compared to VMware for a small/medium enterprise is much better.
The support experience has been much better.
Cons
Display the IP address of the node on which the VM is running on the Devices (gear icon) tab. This would allow me to manage my Microsoft license easier.
During the on-boarding I missed the step to install the Scale Computing Platform tools, and we didn't notice this until I had issues with backups. It would be helpful if some kind of alert notification would display on a VM card if the tools were not installed.
Add a new health or diagnostics tab that would display alerts, diagnostic tools, performance concerns or pattern anomalies.
Some kind of email/alert when a disk reaches near capacity
Likelihood to Recommend
I believe Scale Computing Platform shines in the small enterprise environment and it would work well in a medium/edge environment enterprise environment. Based on my experience with VMWare, I believe Scale Computing Platform's solution would struggle to meet the needs of a larger enterprise that relies on more robust, industry standardized system integrations for automation and management. The Acronis backup solution is robust, but Veeam is the industry standard for a reason.

Currently, we have a 3-node Scale Cluster running the servers at our Police Department. We had a VMWare solution, but for the local tech staff, it was too cumbersome and expensive. Scale is very simple for the Police Dept to manage.
Pros
Updates - Almost a single button to push and then Scale completes all updates.
Cloning - Again a single button and done.
Setup - The setup of all 3 nodes took approx 1 hour.
Cons
We have used Scale for just under a year and have not yet noticed any area that needs improvement.
I actually joked with my Scale rep that the system is so easy to manage and foolproof that we don't login to the console often enough and can never remember the password
Likelihood to Recommend
I would recommend it to anyone who has three or more servers. We just received another quote as I am about to deploy Scale at City Hall as well. This will replace my 8-year-old VMware cluster that hosts 20 servers.
We use Scale Computing for our school corporation to have quick, trustworthy, reliable, and easy to use virtual machines for all of our server needs. We don't have a lot of time for setting up or maintaining and Scale Computing makes this extremely easy. This platform already existed when I joined the corporation nearly a year ago and was simple enough to use that I was able to spin up new servers within about 5 minutes without needing to ask anyone how and having no training. Everything was done with just a few clicks and all the tools were put on the server with the Scale Tools they provide to make setting up the new server even easier. Adding storage space or memory is no problem at all. I also love that I don't have to worry about any physical machines breaking down, as Scale will automatically move the VMs to the other physical machines so there is no downtime at all while we can replace broken equipment. I can't say enough about the ease of use and reliability of this platform.
Pros
Reliable
Great and helpful support for any questions I have had
Easy to use
Cons
The UI could be a little "prettier"
Likelihood to Recommend
It is perfectly suited for sysadmins who don't have a lot of time, but want to be able to have on-prem servers with the same ease of creating a new server as AWS. With just a few clicks it is done. Setting up snapshot backups is extremely easy. You can close, export, and import servers with a single button.

We purchased our first Scale HC3 to eliminate a number of hardware servers in our Middle School campus. With a very limited staff we found it cumbersome and time consuming to keep servers up to date as hardware fell out of support and could no longer be upgraded.
The results were so positive and beneficial we purchased a second system for another campus and plan to add a third cluster in 2024.
Pros
Deploying new servers is ridiculously easy and fast. New servers require zero additional space or power.
Scale Computing Platform affords a powerful and convenient backup capability. Not only by snapshots of whole VMs, we can fetch individual files out of those snapshots.
Updates to the Scale Computing Platform itself are beautifully self-contained. The backend software moves VMs and processes between running nodes as they update and reboot. There are no user interruptions and no notifications of same are needed.
Cons
In my experience, we use Active Directory and Scale Computing Platform has yet to implement robust support for domain controller snapshots. This Microsoft feature (VM-Generation ID) allows a restored domain controller to properly re-integrate with AD.

I can heartily recommend Scale Computing Platform for anyone looking into virtualization. If you've been in IT very long you'll appreciate the benefits and the pain points Scale Computing Platform can address with its elegant design. But the reason I have chosen the maximum 10 for my rating is my experience with the Scale Computing Platform support team. I'll describe two incidents in some detail: 1) A long term power outage caused a need to shut down VMs on the backend, under time pressure. We reached support via cellphone and they stayed with us throughout the process. We accessed the backend directly on the nodes while support recited the required command line statements. In the end we were able to shut down all the VMs, and then the nodes, gracefully. Bravo Scale! 2) We had an unsupported VM requirement (an old Red Hat Linux v5 server) which was a very tough nut to crack. Scale Computing Platform support rendered a herculean, and successful, effort to get this ancient hardware and software virtualized. I can honestly say that, without their assistance I would never have gotten this server virtualized.

The Scale platform is currently running 15 servers for us. Before we had several physical systems that were dedicated to specific applications. We often need to test a system configuration before it is deployed into our production environment. Scale makes this really simple and efficient process. The backup and restore capabilities of Scale system is quick and reliable.
Pros
Backup, Cloning.
Distributing the computing resources across the nodes
support access from Scale
user interface is clean and simple
Cons
Remote to servers from the management consol.
Ability to have backups more like a Veeame solution
Likelihood to Recommend
Scale's price point makes it an attractive option for smaller companies.
