Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Strategic replacement for SAP BW, aimed at enabling enterprise-wide reporting and analytical capabilities. The platform supports core functionalities such as data modeling, orchestration of data loads, and centralized governance. Particularly useful when the main source is SAP S/4.
As the solution is still relatively new within SAP’s product portfolio, the central enterprise team is currently focused on building foundational expertise and operational stability. Once the team has gained sufficient familiarity and confidence with the platform, we plan to introduce dedicated line-of-business spaces.

Pros

Integration to SAP S/4 CDS views.
Modeling towards reporting in SAP Analytics Cloud.
Control of agile development via the lineage functionality.

Cons

Support for 3rd party front ends like Power BI is lacking, open SQL on HANA cloud is not an ideal workaround because of user maintenance/RLS.
Data Flow functionality and UI is neglected but still necessary as the new flow types do not support all source types.

Likelihood to Recommend

Best option for next generation agile data warehouse solution that still keeps the focus on enterprise functionality. Good options for mixed modelling with regards to virtualized and/or persisted views to model complex data business logic while keeping good reporting response time. Open connector integration patches some of the shortcommings of a pure BW or HANA based data warehouse with regards to non-SAP data sources, but not quite on par with other 3rd party alternatives like Azure Data Factory.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SAP Datasphere as an ETL tool to extract data to an outside AWS Cloud Databricks (S3 buckets) to build a datalake with data from different domains (finance, HR, ...) Might use it for modelisation and reporting in the future.

Dashboards for insights (number of rows extracted, % of failure, average duration)
Embedded advice on the best setup based on the volumetry ( not through the calculator on the SAP site )
Integrate an easy performance monitoring tool for the source systems (to assess the impact of the extraction)
Easier tracking of cost

To replicate data (not real time) including huge volumetry of data (mote than a billion) easy integration with AWS cloud and Databricks (S3 buckets)

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Now we are using this tool for our sales department. We have the reporting tool Tableu. And we cannot integrate Tableau and our SAP ECC. Because of that, we implemented SAP Datasphere solution to integrate all data.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Productive usage to distribute all relevant SAP BI Data to our customer. For e.g. Qlik Sense and Google BigQuery.
Actual problem, is the integeration in nonSAP tools. The consumtption for openSQL Connection is not that smart as for SAP Analytics Cloud. We want an bi-directional functionality for all interfaces. Neither its an SAP Product or not.

All Around Okay for Inventory & Sales Reporting

We use SAP as the inventory, and pricing database for all products globally at out company. I personally use it for web pricing and inventory, however the retail team can also separate things by retail, and warehouse. So we can have separate pricing for retail stores and web store.

Likelihood to Recommend

SAP is best suited for large global corporations. It is a very complex software and is difficult to come by individuals who have sufficient enough knowledge to master the product. Globally our company only has 1 person to support us in IT for SAP. It is great if you use a more complex web host such as SFCC as you can make connections to SAP for returns, inventory, price updates, etc.

We now have all of our data catalogued and unified with SAP Datasphere. We are using it to create new visuals for our data reports and delviering bettern analysis in general. Some of our researchers can be really granular but the ecosystem adjusts to it well.

It is not built for super complex tasks but for the daily operations it is perfect. Data intergrity checks would definitely need some attention as we've been having difficulties with them. Current visuals are enough but there always can be more. Not every user in my team was able to jump on the tool without a proper walkthrough.

It is a new Data management tool from SAP with tight integration with SAP BTP. The positioning is little confusing since not sure whether it replaces SAP BW, or any other CDP platform. It is a combination of individual components like SAP analytics cloud and help in all processes of data in the organization
