The product is easy to catch on to and provides great reports for us to run year over year comparisons.

  • Reports are quick and easy to generate
  • Web based software makes it easy to share our data

Cons

  • At the is point in our business operations it meets our needs

Return on Investment

  • Productivity - I spend less time on our accounting processes
  • Reports provide me with accurate up to date information to help with key decisions

Review of Sage

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Sage for Bookkeeping, Year end reviews from other bookkeepers and payroll. It is very good for the bookkeeping of basic clients that don't require more active use of their software, so mostly these are small businesses with limited transactions. As we don't do full bookkeeping, this works well for us. We have a number of clients where we only do the year end statements, with the bookkeeping done by a separate bookkeeper. We are able to import the data and review and make changes. We also run payroll for several clients through Sage.

Pros

  • Payroll
  • Journal Entries
  • Its accounting software not like quickbooks.

Cons

  • It would be easier to tie into bank feeds
  • Better integration with other users off site
  • Better importing of statements

Return on Investment

  • With payroll, I have been able to use the software to deliver payroll for small companies, in a more affordable manner than going to larger payroll companies like ADP or Ceridian. I can bill a lesser amount, or include it in my fixed rate and have a better return with less costs to me.
  • For a small business with limited transactions, Sage allows me to keep the records for years, without a high monthly cost like a quickbooks client. Quickbooks with a monthly fee of $50 a month, costs $600 a year, and if I am billing $1800 for the whole year, its a big expense, with Sage that cost is a fraction.
  • Being able to import and review data provided by an outside bookkeeper without having to pay a subscription is a big cost savings..

Sage Accounting why I still use it after 2 years.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Sage Online Accounting to keep track of day-to-day expenses, maintain and record all our accounts including the GL, and calculate my year end statements for tax filing. Sage Online Accounting is also very helpful for finding trends in where our money is moving.

Pros

  • Mobility. All I need to update and keep the books is an internet connection.
  • Reports are easy to find, and customize.
  • Simplicity of service. There aren't a lot of bells and whistles to confuse users. Sage follows the KISS principle (Keep It Simple for Stupid people), and it works.

Cons

  • The knowledgebase is limited. While I personally haven't run into issues, sites such as QBO have a much more extensive learning area.

Return on Investment

  • Sage has made the accounting side of my business easy. I always am able to find the reports that I need. The page layouts are simplistic and well thought out.
  • The widgets on the summary page are very good to quickly show everyone, how the company is doing, and where issues that need fixing can be found.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Sage Accounting is used to keep tract of our income and expenses plus the GST portion. At the end of the year the totals are used in preparing our income tax returns.

i am quite familiar with Sage Accounting for PC’s but have switched to a MacBook. The one thing I do like is that I can access my account from any of my devices. I don’t like the expense. Ours is a very small farm and the monthly fee is more than we would like to spend. Also I would prefer to pay once a year. I’ve contacted Sage Accounting and that doesn’t seem to be an option. I don’t like the fact that tailoring the account to meet my specific needs seems to be impossible. I go into the “help” but rarely find answers to my questions. A lot of what I have discovered comes through reading the settings section hoping to find answers. Sometimes I do, sometimes not. In my experience, it’s quite frustrating and time consuming.

Pros

  • Sage Accounting for PCs allows you to customize your accounts, in my experience, Mac does not
  • Sage Accounting for PCs allows one user, several companies, in my experience, Mac does not
  • Sage Accounting for PCs will keep the same date when entering data, in my experience, Mac defaults to current date after each entry

Cons

  • Sage Accounting for Mac, allow the option of paying yearly
  • Sage Accounting for Mac, allow more than one business per user
  • Sage Accounting for Mac, allow the customer to add or delete accounts used or not used

Return on Investment

  • No real impact
