Business Problems Solved

Revit is a versatile software used in various industries for a wide range of purposes. Users, including architects, engineers, and construction professionals, rely on Revit for designing and coordinating building projects. With its powerful features, Revit has become the go-to tool for creating construction drawings, performing structural analysis, and solving coordination problems. It streamlines the process of creating 3D models, generating estimates, and sending isometric models to the project management team. Revit is also extensively used for BIM/MEP coordination, allowing different trades to collaborate seamlessly and catch potential issues early on. Moreover, Revit aids in visualization, enabling studio artists to develop and bring amusement park designs to life. Contractors and manufacturers invest in Revit to stay competitive and meet technological demands. Overall, Revit proves to be an invaluable asset in the construction industry by addressing problems related to quantities, takeoff, coordination between trades, and meeting client requirements.

Revit for design and construction

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Revit is used by our design department to create construction documents and it is also used by our construction department for coordination and spool drawings. We have been using it for about 10 years. It has really streamlined our coordination. It is a huge advantage to have the entire architectural and structural model reside (Linked) in your design model.

Pros

  • The ability to have the architectural and structural models linked to your own design model is a big advantage.
  • Modeling risers and shafts is much easier now compared to the old AutoCAD days.
  • A combination of design and construction tools gives Revit the edge in Design software.

Cons

  • The text editor is not as robust as AutoCAD.

Likelihood to Recommend

Revit is the perfect design and construction software. The intuitive nature of the software makes it a great design tool. In the construction world, we use it with Trimble SysQue and it is powerful. Our designers have all of the information at their fingertips. Modeling shafts is much easier than it was compared to AutoCAD. It is the same with sleeves and cores.

Revit for building design rather than construction

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Revit is being used by our organization to produce architectural drawings and plans for construction purposes. It also provides clients with a detailed visual representation of their final product. It is currently only being used by the drafting department. However, visual representations are able to be exported into other formats for viewing by engineering personnel. The business problem that Revit addresses is the need for 3D representation of a construction plan to head off any potential problems during construction.

Pros

  • Standard library of components.
  • Intuitive drawing features for building construction.
  • The connection between elements is smart and efficient.

Cons

  • The ability to accurately place items.
  • The ability to accurately detail items.
  • Drawing order and process could be improved.

Likelihood to Recommend

The creation of a building for client approval is where Revit is best suited. Revit is less suited to providing detailed workshop drawings for features within the design that are a part of the construction build. Revit has a standard library and is able to be expanded with online tools from direct manufacturers, enabling a real-time version of what is to be constructed.

Revit is a must have for new construction

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our company uses Revit across all three trades we do here. We use Revit or other software depending on the project. For larger or new construction projects I find that Revit is extremely helpful with coordination between trades. It can help reveal areas where space is too tight for our designs that we might not have noticed otherwise.

Pros

  • The ability to turn on and off selected things based on what you want to show on your drawings
  • High detailed families so you can control the level of detail you want to see
  • Using families to auto-schedule equipment

Cons

  • Dealing with sloped pipe for plumbing can be very frustrating at times
  • There should be more functions to do with tagged existing or new items

Likelihood to Recommend

Revit is excellent for new construction projects where you can enter in all the data as the project goes along.

Revit can be hard for older people in the industry as there can be a high barrier of entry to get the hang of how Revit likes to do things.
It can also be tough for modifying existing buildings as there can be a lot of existing conditions to model correctly.
