RescueTime, from the company of the same name in Seattle, is a platform for understanding attention and time spent on digital devices, with the goal of helping knowledge workers to understand the ever-increasing time they spend staring at a screen, and be able to take steps to optimize their work days for maximum efficiency, balance and happiness. RescueTime tracks exactly how a user spends time on digital devices, automatically categorizing activity so users can see the time spent on specific apps, websites, and projects, and gauge daily productivity.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Some individuals in the company used RescueTime to track time spent on tasks other than work. We also use it to recognize things we shouldn't spend so much time dealing with. Despite being just an icon on my taskbar, RescueTime silently maps everything I'm doing, and at the end of the day, it gives me a report indicating how productive I've been.
