Been great so far

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We wanted to be able to get to more users and to scale without having to worry about how we are going to receive payments from our users, also we wanted to implement the least amount of payment processors and don't have to worry about different country legislations. Paddle made this process easy for us, taking care of the legislations and VAT in the countries we offer our solution.

Pros

  • Taking care of the relation with government entities and compliance in each country.
  • They take care of the VAT for us.
  • It gives the tools to scale to other countries being able to charge your users in different parts of the world.

Cons

  • The inclusion of more currencies (CLP)
  • Some users cannot pay with prepaid cards

Likelihood to Recommend

Paddle is a great way to expand quickly to other countries without the barrier of how you charge your users in different parts of the globe. Also, the way they manage the relations with country legislations, so you don't have to, is a no-brainer (the only throwback is that you cannot recover that VAT to use in your company as a credit).
In our case is not 100% suited for us. In the idea of just implementing and starting working with it, we had to create some way of showing prices in CLP to our users, and that convert to USD and charge that to our users. The fees are an area where Paddle can improve, considering that other providers like Stripe have fees of almost half.

They don't pay out vendors on time

Rating: 1 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I've been using their service for a few years and their support has gotten progressively worse up to the point where they don't pay out vendors on time. Getting any kind of meaningful response from support is borderline impossible and it takes them at least a day to respond even in the most trivial cases. They only have email support. No phone or live chat. My current ordeal has been going on for over 10 days and has gotten to the point where I did not get paid on time purely due to Paddle's negligence. I reminded them I plead, I was polite but that's not the way to resolve anything with them. If you need a reliable merchant of records avoid Paddle and find somebody else.

Pros

  • their fees are decent

Cons

  • borderline non-existent support
  • vendors don't get paid on time
  • no phone support

Likelihood to Recommend

I wouldn't recommend them to anybody because their support is getting worse and worse and their business processes require you to contact support whether you want to or not. You will be forced to contact support and then wait for days to get any meaningful response that's not a copy/pasted sentence from FAQ.

Great for macOS and browser extensions

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Paddle in our browser extensions to provide in-app purchase functionality. We also use Paddle and DevMate integration to sell licenses for our macOS application. It handles trials, as well as blocking the app usage if the user didn’t provide a license. We also use Paddle for in-app analytics for our Mac App Store app to collect user behavior data.

Pros

  • macOS application licensing/trials
  • JavaScript-based purchase page for web
  • Webhooks

Cons

  • Paddle support can be better
  • Paddle documentation lacks some important information
  • Mac analytics is very basic and limited

Likelihood to Recommend

Paddle is perfect if you want to sell your macOS app from your website. It’s also very good if you want to provide in-app purchases in your web application or browser extension. It’s easy to integrate and the integration rarely needs any changes. It won’t be as good for e-commerce.

Want to proceess recurring billing? Go with Paddle.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We started using Paddle for our recurring billing at Iconscout. Being an Indian startup it's difficult to get a recurring payment gateway, thus we opted for Paddle who provides this feature. Now, we're using Paddle for all our transactions.

Pros

  • Recurring billing
  • Zero failure ratio
  • Good customer support
  • Easy to implement

Cons

  • More detailed dashboard
  • Invoicing feature for accepting direct payments
  • It's better if they can offer lower transaction rates

Likelihood to Recommend

Paddle is adequate for Indian SaaS companies who have a majority of their customer base outside of India. It's really easy to integrate and has good customer support. If your targeted audience is regional then you should probably look for a local alternative.
