Use Cases and Deployment Scope

OAA (now OML) is being used at the departmental level, rolling up to the region (North America) and finally to the whole organization. It has assisted in identifying weaknesses and leakages in the organization and assessing anomalies in P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow reporting. The ability to scale up has provided a unique view to assess what ails the organization as a whole from the ground up. The ability to address pervasive issues is critical in fixing the leakages and anomalies throughout the organization.
The other concern was being able to segment data and analytics by department. One dept. did not need to see the other department's numbers and vice versa. The ability to manage access rights is also a critical feature of this module.

Pros

Rights management.
Decimation of data from group to region to department, whittling down Big Data!

Cons

More pre-built tools, easier SQL query building.
Not sure I like the self balancing feature on the Balancesheet.

Likelihood to Recommend

Well suited for distributed and structured finance team. Less suited for ad hoc analytical requirements. When building repeatable SQL queries which often take a good bit of time, this is a great platform. Queries that are significantly complex need to be outsourced. On many occasions, a quick and dirty request is needed and often this is not the best platform to do that.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cornerstone utilizes Oracle DB at our organization as well as recommends to other organizations for purchase as well as manages existing Oracle DB installations. We provide managed services for organizations that have the Oracle DB. Additionally we upgrade older versions to the newer version of the DB.

Pros

Growth capability- Will allow you to grow and upgrade from std to enterprise edition as needed for functionality
Security options available
Enterprise level product

Cons

Can be pricing if run on commodity servers when you don't need full capacity because of licensing
Std Edition has limited features and often needs to be upgraded to Enterprise edition
Can be complicated to install properly

Likelihood to Recommend

Standard edition for small organizations that don't need partitioning or multi-tenant capabilities. Runs best on Oracle engineered systems and has much more licensing flexibility

Oracle Database 12 C is used by our entire organization. It is used for our data repository. Oracle 12c has number of features and easily scalable for enterpise requirements. Along with the features, support is provided for integration with different platforms which helps in building applications with different technologies possible.

Pros

Large set of data can be stored & retrieved easily
Cloud based so can retrieve from anywhere, anytime

Cons

Difficult for beginners to learn
Not optimized for low performance systems
License is expensive

Oracle 12c is not optimized for low performance systems and makes it difficult for beginners to try it when learning.

We use the database for many OLAP and OLTP applications. The database works really great. The error messages could be more informative, however.

Pros

Very robust.
Works great if initial set-up is done correctly.

Cons

Error messages that are displayed can be improved.
Need to improve performance tuning.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is very good for applications where you have OLAP and OLTP's.

The Engineering and Business Intelligence teams use Oracle Database as their primary data store. The Oracle Databases serves as a data warehouse that powers all of our applications. Oracle Database is very reliable and performant. With its many features, it can easily be queried in a SQL client or connected to any application (Java in our case).

Pros

Great SQL client that allows for advanced querying.
Extensive support for stored procedures, functions, materialized views, windowing functions, and other useful SQL operations.
Stable. Oracle Database has been around for many years and has a large developer community.

Cons

Expensive. There are several free alternatives (Postgres, MySQL).
More difficult to install and setup than other alternatives (ie: MySQL).
Difficult to support and administer (ie: backups).

Likelihood to Recommend

Oracle Database is very efficient and stable. If you have the money to spend and care a lot about security and availability, then Oracle Database can be a great option. If you're a start-up or don't want to pay anything, there are multiple free alternatives like Postgres and MySQL. Oracle also integrates nicely with many other applications and services, so it might be a good solution depending on your particular platform.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

This program is being used across our sales and engineering team. We use this program to keep track of customers' habits and trends. Oracle Advanced Analytics (OAA) helps me be able to provide the most relevant marketing and sales information to our customers. Our engineering team can track and monitor trends while passing all this information to our sales team.

Pros

Very easy to integrate from other software such as SalesForce, Gmail, and Tenfold
Easy to format and produce reports without too much technical knowledge. Very easy to read and convey the data needed
Scales quite well with the amount of data we are processing on a monthly basis

Cons

At times OAA seem to be unstable and is known to crash. Stability can be a issue
Formatting, fonts, and characters customization is lacking. It would be nice to be able to create a custom repeat using the above features
It can be pricey compared to other analytical software

Likelihood to Recommend

OAA seems to work best translating easy to read reports. This works great when we don't need too much overhead just a quick report to get out to our sales team. Time can be a crunch at times so this is a huge plus.

We support large manufacturing companies that use Oracle DB for their ERP systems, financial systems and a number of business-critical systems. They run both standard and enterprise Oracle databases. It is efficient, performs well and is extremely reliable and robust. It allows the businesses to run in an efficient way, providing data quickly when needed for business analysis.

Oracle is well suited to large database deployments, but less suited for small deployments, although our small customers have no choice but use Oracle DB as the ERP system only works with Oracle.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It is used throughout my key client's organisation. Currently implementing it with multi-tenant for all development and testing on an EXADATA platform. Next step is to move up production for all databases to 12c too, also on EXADATA.

With multi-tenant we address several problems, one is the ability to get all developers and testers to be on the target platform of EXADATA. Another is to enable rapid deployment of development and testing databases.

Pros

Virtualized databases - Multi-Tenant is the flagship feature of 12c. It is a wonderful feature, especially in development and testing where everyone wants a copy of exactly how all production databases are structured.
Classic Oracle DB stability - it just works.
Full featured database beyond pur SQL. AQ, Oracle Text, file watcher, XML, JSON, and so on with all the extra technologies one gets with the platform.

Cons

The product is complete, but sure there are nice things that could be added. Such as having INSERT be able to write it as column = value instead of first listing columns and then values while having to manually make sure they match up.

Likelihood to Recommend

As it is a general purpose database, it is hard to see it as less appropriate. But anything requiring just a couple of tables with just a handful of rows would not be the reason for the full complexity of a full-featured database. Same thing with niche solutions where a database specifically for that need exists. But for 99% of all data driven applications, Oracle would be my default choice.
