Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We got OneDrive with our MS license and we are trying to figure out how to use it.

Pros

  • Cloud Storage
  • You can access from multiple devices and locations
  • Fairly easy to use.

Cons

  • It takes over your file save location
  • Too in-your-face when you try to save files
  • It tries to force you to use it when you share files.

Return on Investment

  • We have not fully deployed OneDrive so we are not getting the full value.
  • One of the best values of OneDrive is having your files available on multiple devices.

file management, file sharing, editing documents, commenting in documents. getting approval for documents, uploading photos, and a variety of other cloud service tasks that any software like box, dropbox, google drive would offer.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use OneDrive so that everyone can have access to essential files. It allows the entire company to see and edit files together, addressing the communication gap that can sometimes occur within companies. We use it so everyone can see files that need to be shared.

Pros

  • Creates transparent companies.

Cons

  • If you have someone with a history of using OneDrive at other companies, some files can blend together. At least from my point of view, I could see files that did NOT belong, which made me super paranoid.
  • It needs a better user interface to show what is shared with the rest of the company and what is NOT.
  • Simpler, intuitive set up with solve this issue.

Return on Investment

  • It has saved time to find files that are now more "public domain".
  • It allows us to collaborate which has created better team cohesion.
  • Honestly, the lack of understanding of what is shared with everyone is frustrating. I spent hours deleting stuff that I didn't want to be shared (my taxes, my wedding photos, etc.), and it got to a point where I just had to relax and say, "Whatever happens, happens," as checking my files and everywhere that it can save to daily was insane.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Currently OneDrive is the one stop shop for all our document and video management. We have organised structures where teams can save the data in their own space. Having the ability to save documents in to locations where we can put permissions in place so that others cant access these documents is very handy.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using university wide OneDrive solution for storage and file sharing. For research oriented activities, it is necessary for the students and faculties to have easy, multi device, multi platform storage solutions. OneDrive provides just that, we can share large files easily, efficiently, and securely. It can be accessed from anywhere anytime. Having 1 tb/person is also a great.
