Categories & Use Cases

Great evaluation tool!

Pros

  • NWEA MAP Suite calculates projected growth for individual students based on their grade level and RIT score for each subject.
  • Projected growth can be found on many different reports.

Cons

  • None, this software does what it claims.

Return on Investment

  • Allowed us to test students 3x a year to better evaluate if a student is growing or not.
  • The data from the MAP assessment may be included as part of the placement review process along with other data points, such as student work samples and other assessment data to help determine if a student is ready for the next grade level.

NWEA MAP will get you to where you want to go!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

NWEA MAP is used for benchmark assessment of the students three times per year. I also use the skills checklists for progress monitoring of specific skills in ELA and math. All of the assessments give specifics on what the child knows and does not know. The reports should each date that the child was assessed and keep a "running record" of their scores.

Pros

  • The NWEA MAP assessment questions directly align to college and career standards.
  • The NWEA MAP assessment questions are rigorous and students must show a depth of knowledge.
  • The reports are extremely useful. I especially like that it reports the effort of the student.

Cons

  • NWEA MAP has technical issues during prime testing times (fall, winter, and spring). It is as if the system gets overloaded and cannot handle all of the students logged on at once.
  • I would like to be able to see the reports immediately. Currently, you have to wait until the next day for the scores to be available.

Most Important Features

  • Direct alignment to our state standards.
  • It can predict achievement to the state assessment and ACT.
  • The questions are rigorous and align to the college and career ready standards.

Return on Investment

  • NWEA MAP is a valuable tool for our district in terms of assessment data. I do not deal with the money directly, but from the teacher standpoint, it is a quality product.
