We use Matillion ETL as an orchestrator, source ingestor and partially as a transformation tool. We utilize its connectors to query multiple sources, organize these pulls into neat interconnected flows and run initial transformations. Additionally, we use the native Git integration to have a proper development pipeline with the CI/CD flow.
Pros
Easy to use orchestration and transformation components
A good amount of connectors for any occasion
Flexibility to create custom flows
Cons
Niche limitations on some connectors
Poorly documented connectors
Lack of features in connection to the native Git integration
No cache clearing options
Likelihood to Recommend
Great: Need to query simpler APIs, or utilize well known services such as GSheets etc.? Matillion has got some of the best and easiest to use connectors out there.
Not so great: Do you need have a competent CI/CD flow that you will be able to update / compare from Matillion as well as other sources at the same time? Good luck, you will need to be extra careful, as you might have to have a deeper dive into your servers Terminal each time you have a git conflict.
Data extraction and loading from operational systems into the central data warehouse and data transformation. Automation of the loading and transformation jobs. It achieves the vision of combining all data for analysis and reporting in a central data warehouse in the cloud (Snowflake). It is easy to learn with the UI components to do standard transformation tasks, but it also allows coding logic in SQL or Python for more complex tasks that cannot be achieved with the pre-built components.
Pros
Orchestration and automation of data loading and transformation jobs.
Very cost efficient.
Easy to learn.
Cons
Configuring data extraction and loading jobs is a bit tedious.
Occasional out of memory errors due to Java (Tomcat) being used internally.
User administration and fine-granted permission control.
Likelihood to Recommend
If most of the operational systems to load data from are based in the cloud and you want to load the data into a cloud data warehouse, then Matillion is an excellent choice. If your developers prefer a GUI over code, then Matillion is a good choice. If you choose a single tool for loading the data into the data warehouse and the transformation part, then Matillion is a good choice. On the other hand, if your developers prefer to code or you prefer a best-of-breed approach for loading and transformation instead of the one-platform approach, then Matillion is less suited for you.
We use Matillion to schedule and run our ETL jobs. This helps our company to have accurate and timely data in order to make data-driven decisions. Matillion runs and organizes almost all of our data.
Pros
Scheduling ETL jobs
Third party API connection components
Cons
Not enough third party API integrations
No version control easily usable
Likelihood to Recommend
Matillion is well suited for the non-technical data user, because it has out of the box third party API integrations. It is well suited for scheduling daily jobs to run. It is less appropriate when you want to store your ETL code in an environment that has version control and QA sign-off

Matillion perfectly solves the issue of multiple data sources from different technology stacks and formats that need orchestrating into meaningful views of the data to then allow proper data mining. This then means we can provide the insights and trends the individual and group leadership needs in order to run the business in an adaptive and agile way. The technical team also appreciates the care given to building a UX that is easy to follow compared to other ETL tools used in the past.
Pros
Combines multiple data sources easily
Reports and alerts issues effectively
Customer service of professional
Has been super stable for us over the last 2+ years
Cons
Billing is confusing
UX is good but isn't the best on the market
Detailed help sometimes hard to find
Likelihood to Recommend
Very flexible and scaleable to a point but I wonder if there are limits with larger data sets and a higher number of data sources. We are a technical team but less technical people may prefer a more wizard-based approach. Splitting out billing across multiple clients doesn't look possible. (Snowflake can do this)
We use Matillion as the main ETL tool for our Data warehouse. Our daily jobs extract and transform data from sources such as Dynamics CRM, several APIs, and tracking data from our websites.
Pros
ETL
API Integrations
Speed of processing
Cons
Improved data quality monitoring
Maybe the UI could do with a makeover, it feels a bit old (but still nice though :-) )
Easier integration with Slack, etc.
Likelihood to Recommend
Matillion provides a very intuitive way of handling all types of ETL processes. There are tons of built-in components for data sources, such as Google products, where Sheets is a great example that we use for manual data input. And with ease, you can set up API query/extract profiles to get data from all types of API.

We needed a way of empowering people with data in a no-code way. Data is a bottleneck and everyone needs it, but how do we give them this data and enable them to use it effectively? We launched ‘Data as a Product’ - A package of tools and resources that exposes raw data to people and allows them to manipulate it with ease. Matillion is the key tool in this package that allows people to manipulate data at the speed of thought with no code. Matillion’s no-code design, intuitive interface, and collaboration centric architecture allowed us to get people set up and transforming data in a matter of minutes with very little support from the Data team.
Pros
We leveraged Matillion’s no-code principals to make data manipulation easy for our internal customers. People who don't know how to use SQL no longer need to. Everything in Matillion is self-explained with no or little coding.
We connected Matillion to our data warehouse to allow people to read raw data, transform it, then write results back to their sandbox databases. The drag and drop component design allowed customers to create complex data models at the speed of thought without any risk to production data.
With sharing capabilities between projects enabled, everyone was able to help each other when questions arose which instilled a strong sense of collaboration and community.
Cons
The new DPC version of Matillion uses Git principals like Commit, Push, Merge etc. This is perfectly fine for engineers, but for our use-case it means our customers will need to understand a basic level of Git. It would be great if they had an auto-commit-push setting which does it all for them.

Matillion lowers the bar for entry into the world of data transformation. it's low-code design, simple drag'n'drop visualisation and SQL code generator makes data transformation easy and educational for those starting off in the world of data. For refactoring, we’re able to take existing complex SQL models, re-create and visualise them in Matillion, change the design, then use the SQL output from Matillion to create new data models in our repos. Matillion has completely changed the way we serve data to our internal customers at the company; we've exported capability and empowerment rather than allowing ourselves to get swamped with tickets and requests for every possible data question. It's a great tool for getting people to self-serve their own answers to questions about their data.
We have data residing in multiple systems across various applications using disparate database applications. We were looking for a robust tool that would be able to bring in the data from these into our Datawarehouse. And that is where Matillion ETL tool came into picture. So we are using Matillion to integrate the data, transform the data by applying Business logic and finally making it available for the Business users to make informed decisions w.r.t Sales, Campaigns and Promotions and also to understand and address the pain areas of our Customers.
Pros
Connectors for multiple systems/applications spread across Databases, APIs, Files, etc.
The concept of Shared jobs for reusability
Seamless integration with Multiple Cloud providers
Cons
UI Feature to track job changes
Option to put the comments while importing/exporting the jobs
Option to search for component names inside the opened job in canvas

I prefer Matillion for:
Salesforce integrations. Not just extracting the data from Salesforce, but it has capability to even push the data to Salesforce.
API integrations: Nowadays, all the applications are exposing their data using APIs instead of direct connectivity for security and other reasons, and Matillion has the ability to extract from all kinds of API sources.
The ability to run the same job in other environment by setting up different environments within the same project.
Scheduling is very basic and does not have advanced capabilities. So this needs to be improved.
Matillion is a user friendly interface, which allows our different data engineers to easily set up data integrations and transformations. It also support wide range of data sources , including cloud based databased, file systems and APIs, making it an excellent choice for our organization. Matillion has received high marks for its ease of use reliability.
Pros
Integrate with AWS, GCP Microsoft Azure
work with data from multiple sources
user friendly
Cons
sometime slow to load
documentation can be difficult to navigate
update is sometime difficult on infra
Likelihood to Recommend
Matillion is powerful and easy-to-use data integration and transformation platform which can handle large volumes of data like our company where we process billions of data every day. Also, it's customer support helped our team to achieve our goal on time.We use AWS in our company and Matillion provide integration with it
We are using Matillion as our main ETL tool in order to move data from our RDS databases to our DWH (Redshift); during the process, we extract the data, perform some transformations, aggregations, and so on before inserting it on Redshift, where this data is used afterward by Quicksight and others B.I tools.
Pros
I is really simple and good.
Documentation
Drags and Drops.
Performance
Cons
I think the price could be a bit cheaper.
Likelihood to Recommend
I always suggest Matillion for organizations that do not want to spend money and time developing their own ETL tool, Matillion is a mature one and meet all requirements about it. It is important to check if you have any edge case and have a look if it is covered by Matillion or not.
