With all the IT asset across various office globally, we need to have a centralize IT asset management software to inventories all the IT assets (hardware and software) in my organization as a single source of truth. The benefit of this SaaS product is without the need to install agents on all IT equipment for discovery and making it easier to deploy.

- The reporting needs to be more details though there are many options available.
- Patch management is not easy to use and confusing

Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We use Lansweeper in the company for several functions, among them it is related to the inventory and control of all assets in our network (Desktops, Notebooks, Servers, Switches, IP Phone, Materials in stock...) in addition to keeping the monitoring of our environment VMware Hypervisor. We recommend using Lansweeper for a company's entire IT environment by taking inventory of assets online. Lansweeper enabled us to successfully pass 5 Microsoft audits in compliance.

Pros
- Inventory - LANSweeper scans the network for devices - anything with an SNMP trap or using AD or local credentials. We can get an in-depth look at devices.
- Reporting - LANSweeper can generate just about any report you can imagine. We can check RAM in groups and determine where upgrades are needed. We can find local printers (which aren't allowed on our network) and address that issue with the user. We can check CPU type to help determine end of life without our network.
- Printers - It's nice to have a quick look at printer statuses. Toner levels, out of paper, and service errors are all reported via LANSweeper.
Cons
- LANSweeper has a tendency to be extremely slow sometimes. We are running it in a 2016 VM. It has plenty of RAM, CPU, and Storage. However I believe it would benefit from living on an SQL server instead of a local lite instance of SQL.
- I wish there were more details in the printer reports. It is definitely a bit lacking.
- It's hard to balance the auto-removal of items from LANSweeper. This isn't necessarily LANSweeper's fault. But sometimes you want to keep record of devices for a period after they're gone. Sometimes, you just want to wipe the slate clean of old items and start over.
- The Helpdesk system needs a LOT of improvement. We used it for two years. This year, we did not renew. It is comical looking with its colors and large fonts. It is difficult to sort through tickets. I hope it gets better in time. I like having it integrated into the inventory system.

- LANSweeper helps us determine when devices are EOL and deal with them accordingly.
- LANSweeper keeps track of serial and model numbers. Helping us locate specific devices if necessary.
- Warranty tracking is built-in to LANSweeper. It's nice to be able to just click a link and be taken to the manufacturer's warranty information page regarding that device.
- M.A.R.T monitoring is a great feature. We get a report of impending hard drive failures and can deal with them proactively.

Good for that mature IT department
Pros
- Helpdesk - Easy to create tickets or projects and manipulate them even links to a calendar to schedule events.
- Reports and Alerts are so customizable, and you can download tones of them online. Any reports can be turned into an alert that can be emailed to you IF something matches your criteria.
- Network device tracking to see what you have and details about them are excellent, and set up was fast and straightforward as it scanned my network easily.
- Tracking what software you have. Other software tracking programs I have used gave too much info; this gives you only what you need to see about what software it finds. And yes, you can create more custom reports or alerts.
- Great for Scorcarding due to the reports you can make
- You get alerts from Lansweeper of major software updates and the SQL code to copy and create a report to check all your PC's to see if they have the right updates.
Cons
- The menu bar is too bunched up, and it uses a hover over to pull-down menus. I'm always hovering over the wrong thing and have to move my mouse away then go back to hover or click on what I want.
- I would like to turn off the hover-over on helpdesk tickets. It pops up too fast before I can ready my support ticket subjects.
Return on Investment
- Being able to see everything on my network helps me keep track and keep unauthorized software off my network.
- If you set up to many scans, you could slow down your network. Keep it simple or scan at night. Lansweeper has to scan before the Reports and Alerts can have updated data to work with.
- You will have to have a dedicated PC or VM to run this. An old PC worked for me.

Pros
- Scanning and detecting devices on our network - in most cases, it can determine what type of device it is and pull all relevant details from that device into searchable fields.
- Fantastic support and communication from the vendor - including publishing new report templates monthly that you can import into Lansweeper to assist with security audits and updates.
- Easy and intuitive helpdesk feature that allows you to track requests against specific assets.
Cons
- The reporting module is very involved - if you're familiar with relational databases, it will help - but for the common user, there isn't a wizard driven process for creating reports.
- Interface overall is dated - but is still functional. A new, cleaner interface would be welcomed.
- Really needs an alert module to immediately notify when thresholds have been met - currently, you schedule alerts that check at certain times to see if a threshold has been met - it is not immediate.
Return on Investment
- For the cost, it has been the quickest ROI, as we've been able to dramatically improve our auditing capabilities and verify asset inventory.
- Part of that ROI, is that there was little setup or configuration necessary to get up and going - a quick install and instructing Lansweeper what IP range to scan, and it took care of the rest. Adding linkage into Office 365 and our on-prem Active Directory was also very quick and intuitive.
