Usage of Kindsight iWave in prospect research and outreach

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I utilize Kindsight iWave to conduct research or find more information about a certain person, company, or a company's other business locations outside of its headquarters. I work professionally in corporate fundraising, so I love the feature about being able to see a company's philanthropic giving, giving to certain industries/organizations, and even the level of that giving. Additionally, I like that I can find an individual person I'm trying to contact, and even though I don't have a lot of personal information to type-in and find that person within Kindsight iWave, I can use other auxilliary information to track down that person, find his/her email and title, and then follow up if I want. It's a great tool and is super helpful in research and prospecting.

Pros

  • Research
  • Prospecting
  • Company outreach
  • Philanthropic Giving data
  • Employee titles

Cons

  • Integration with platforms like Outlook, LinkedIn, CRM software
  • Ability to send messages or outreach within Kindsight iWave website itself
  • Using other web links to try and identify a person or company within Kindsight iWave

Return on Investment

  • Ability to identify 5 more "warm" prospects for outreach
  • Ability to use tools to research philanthropic giving from company prospects
  • Putting trust in a person's listed email, title, and tenure at their currently listed company

Outstanding Fundraising Resource

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Kindsight iWave’s comprehensive database provides access to a vast amount of information on potential donors, helping us to make informed decisions about who to target for major gifts. This wealth of data significantly streamlines the prospect research process, saving valuable time and resources. We use it as our main resource to verify home ownership, board memberships and philanthropy, among others.

Pros

  • Solves the time constraints we face to do prospect research and run donor wealth screenings by providing a comprehensive one-stop-shop platform.
  • Brings up property owned by LLCs as well as those owned by individuals.
  • Helps to look for philanthropy interests by enabling the user to zero down under giving areas.

Cons

  • It doesn't interface well with our CRM, causing us to forego use of the screenings.
  • Can be picky with the apartment number format when searching under an address (using # vs. using Apt. or Unit), which can bring up a false empty response.
  • Will sometimes pull up too many variations of a name unless the name is put into quotes. Could use an exact match name box to click as an alternative.

Return on Investment

  • Found property that did not show up in other places
  • Comes up with a more complete list of an individual's outside donations
  • Although they give relationship connections under a created profile, it is not as exhaustive as other resources.

iWave is the bees knees

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Kindsight iWave to identify prospects by searching for their real estate and giving. It is my best source to start my search on where their philanthropy is and the values of homes. I use it for all the other various things they offer but those are the two biggest things I go to iWave for. And those two things are probably the most important when trying to rate a prospect so it's a great source.

Pros

  • Identifying philanthropy from 990s
  • Identifying and putting into a list political giving
  • Providing market values as well as assessed values for homes in the real estate search feature
  • Let's you connect properties by searching for the property being a mailing address along with being the address itself

Cons

  • I would like to know the sources of the real estate market values
  • I wish I could specify names better so when I search Gregory I don't get all the "Greg"s too. Sometimes it's useful for it to pull nicknames but it can be a nightmare for some common names like William.
  • I wish it could pull obituaries my person is mentioned in not just obituaries for my person because I'm never going to be searching for my person's obit, they're a living person I'm currently seeking.

Return on Investment

  • It saves valuable time researchers don't have to look up each 990 to find philanthropy.
  • It gives one simple place to find stock transactions and filter them by what type you're looking for.
  • I can quickly prospect people by searching their address and seeing how much it's worth and moving on quickly if it has a low value.

Unreasonable Contract Renewal Terms

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used it as a wealth screening tool. We would screen our current database of donors and donors we'd accrue over the year. We'd attempt to find new people who would be interested in giving to our organization but that was not successful.

Pros

  • The import tool is easy to use.

Cons

  • Unreasonable renewal contract stipulations.
  • You have to cancel 6 months in advance of your subscription date
  • You have to trim down the possible duplicates and if you know enough about your donors to trim them down to an accurate profile, then you already know more about your donors than Kindsight iWave can tell you.

Return on Investment

  • I found no new donors from using this product.
  • I learned very little about current donors from using this product.

Usability

iWave (Kindsight) Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use iWave (Kindsight) to help identify, rate, screen, and segment prospects - primarily for major gifts fundraising but also for a range of other projects such as leadership volunteer identification, annual fund segmentation, and other engagement opportunities.

Pros

  • customer service
  • maximum value on investment
  • detailed and easily exportable screening results

Cons

  • screening results less weighted toward real estate
  • improved functionality related to identifying connections between prospects that have already been screened
  • expanded functionality to alert users of wealth generating events (sale of real estate, etc)
  • functionality that would allow users to screen for updated employment information

Return on Investment

  • Better identification of potential leadership volunteers: able to segment out those with prior board or foundation experience
  • Improved identification of undergiving prospects, those that are making elevated gifts elsewhere in the community
  • Streamlined and efficient identification and segmentation of large constituent groups, such as incoming parents, allowing us to move quickly to engage the highest potential prospects
