Stay away unless you are a government website

Pros

  • The one thing Jadu does well is organize your own content well.

Cons

  • Jadu has one of the worst database setups I have ever used. If you want to grab content that needs at least 2 categories you are out of luck.
  • It is not flexible at all. A simple thing link create menus with drops downs cannot be done without extensive code.
  • It is extremely slow. Loading pages on the page end takes up to 30sec.
  • The support team are nice guys, but we find ourselves waiting several days for a response to an issues and it doesn't seem like they know what they are doing a lot of the time.
  • Bugs, bugs and more bugs.

Return on Investment

  • Jadu have forced us to spend more time figuring out new ways around it database. We have actually turn to updated json files by hand because of how bad the system is for widget.
  • Jadu has cost us a lot of time just waiting for pages to load.

Alternatives Considered

Craft, WordPress, Drupal, Joomla!, Ghost, Umbraco CMS and Concrete5

Jadu in an Educational Setting

Pros

  • The interface to edit content is simple and resembles word processing programs with its editing abilities.
  • If you do not have a separate form creation program/application, Jadu has its own form module.
  • Jadu gives the ability for users to sign in on your webpage and have different options for logged in users.
  • Even if you haven't used the system in a long time, it's easy to get reacquainted with the user interface.
  • The Jadu team we worked with kept constant communication with us throughout the different stages of switching to a new CMS.
  • Jadu has a great support website that will allow you to search problems, submit your own, and receive responses from the support team.

Cons

  • Sometimes when copying/pasting content, there hidden HTML elements that don't show up on the WYSIWYG when an editor makes the changes, and it requires the administrators to go back in and edit the HTML to get it to look the same.
  • If users are allowed to add pictures to the system, they're also allowed to delete photos. There's no middle ground on that.
  • Since Jadu is not geared toward educational use, Jadu has a great potential for the future.

Return on Investment

  • Jadu has allowed us to allow more users to edit their own content, and in a much easier format.
  • Compared to our old CMS, there are more features available through Jadu that helps us make our website better.

Usability

Jadu is on the right path to mature success

Pros

  • Provides site and content standardization
  • Provides ease of use to novice web creators
  • Provides detailed control for more advanced users

Cons

  • The custom HTML editor can be frustrating
  • Does not provide advanced controls and looks as well as some competitors
  • Menus to add media content are litigious and require many clicks

Return on Investment

  • Increased employee efficiency
  • Able to empower content providers
  • Ability to access and develop in the cloud

Jadu CMS Review`

Pros

  • Reliability. The LAMP-powered server/software rarely has any problems and can handle hundreds of concurrent users without issue. It was developed with scalability in mind.
  • Ease of Use. Our users find the backend GUI very easy to use. The layout is intuitive and follows the same format throughout the entire control panel.
  • Powerful. Even if it doesn't do something you would like it to out of the box, the code is well formatted and easy to customize.

Cons

  • Bugs. We seem to run in to random bugs quite often and find it odd that nobody else has reported them yet. More extensive testing might be helpful before releasing versions/patches.
  • Authentication. It would be nice to see Single Sign-On added to both the front end and administrator panel. Almost all higher education schools are using some sort of SSO, in particular, CAS.
  • Support. The support team is fantastic, but sometimes we find ourselves waiting several days for a response to an issue we are having.

Return on Investment

  • More modern design compared to our old website software solution.
  • Much easier to navigate and find content, as well as searching.
  • More reliable and efficient in terms of server resources.
