We are using Informatica Master Data Management (MDM) to manage the organization data as a single repository system. It helps to ensure that data is complete and correct which in return provides data reliability. The data comes from various sources and in various format thus Informatica MDM helps in collecting and sharing the data across the other enterprise sources. It also helps in analytics decision making and overall management of the data.
Pros
Data Reliability
Integrating the data from various data sources
High Scalability
Cons
Should be improved to deal with mislabeled data
Should be able to process large dataset fast
Unknown data prospects such as Poor data quality can be improved

Informatica MDM is well suited in various scenarios such as it helps in managing overall organization data and provides data consistency and reliability. It provides 360-degree relationship between suppliers, customers and products. Informatica MDM acts as a 'data as a service' and provides high scalability and security. Informatica MDM can be less appropriate where we have lot of mislabeled data and inconsistent records.
It is centralized to one department but the outcome data is deployed to numerous departments. It provides data cleansing updates quickly into numerous applications.
Pros
Evaluation of the data
Integration is easy

We are using Informatica Cloud MDM to facilitate the mastering of our account data. We just recently decided to move to Informatica Cloud MDM from our previous, third-party, MDM tool. I was not a part of the decision to purchase Informatica Cloud MDM, but I am part of the core team of 7 who are implementing the solution. We are using Informatica Cloud MDM to achieve several functions:
Find duplicate accounts.
Merge those accounts.
Enrich account data with information from Dun and Bradstreet.
Consolidate accounts where possible to minimize storage overhead.
Pros
Highly customizable functionality via their web interface or via Salesforce Apex code.
Their 'out of the box' account manipulation jobs required very little modification from our team. What modification that was required, was very simple and straight forward thanks to their details and intuitive configuration screens.
Cons
Their concept of Task Flows (a scheduled or on-demand job) leaves a bit to be desired. While one is able to perform very basic operations and lookups within this interface, it is extremely limited. For our particular implementation, we had several account fields that required both an expression as well as a lookup to be done, but in the Task Flows you are only able to do one or the other, not both. Informatica provides another option, which is a Mapping, which is far more customizable, but due to its complexity, caused a significant increase in development time.
Likelihood to Recommend
For organizations where their data mastering is fairly standard and requires very little customization, Informatica Cloud MDM is an excellent solution. I believe in this scenario, the organization should be able to 'hit the ground running'. However, if your organization requires a highly customizable solution for your data mastering, prepare yourself for a long dev cycle. I'm not saying that Informatica Cloud MDM would not work for these organizations because it is working for us. What I am saying is be cautiously optimistic about the time it will take for you to implement the solution.
Informatica MDM is used by our organization to synchronize data between our legacy customer relation management system and our new customer data management system, Salesforce, as we did our initial implementation of Salesforce. We sourced data from the legacy system, used the tool to identify the best version of the truth for our customers and to cleanse associated addresses. We then published the master data to Salesforce. We also used the tool to keep the systems in synch. When changes occurred in one system the data would flow into our master data management hub, and based on the trust and validation rules, the master data would be updated. All CRM systems were updated with the master data.
Pros
Allows you to implement detailed business rules to apply to your data.
Works well with any ETL tool, but especially well with Informatica PowerCenter.
Provides a browser based interface to facilitate ease of use.
Cons
Mapping within the tool can be difficult. But that is slated for upgrade with the next version.
Many detailed screens for the developer interface. This makes it hard to find options sometimes.
Address validation sometimes leads to incorrect results. This is my biggest issue with the product.

I think Informatica Master Data Management is well suited for identifying the best version of the truth for master data. It provides a means to easily set trust and validation of multiple source systems to fine tune the resultant master data. It is by far a leader in the master data management space.
