What is iMovie?

Apple offers iMovie as a video editing platform supporting video creators with high quality effects, support for 4k resolution, audio editing, and other features supporting the creation of videos and movies.

Categories & Use Cases

iMovie is for easy for ALL...try.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use iMovie to create fast videos and edits music for my clients in social media and maybe for socials events, maybe family events. But it have a BIG problem, it doesn't have differents formats to create new size needed to the differentes platforms. For example, it only work in the resolutions 16:9. Maybe I need more settings to expand the potential and I will use more time and not depend on another software.

Pros

  • edit videos
  • music editions
  • musicalizaron effects
  • Transitions

Cons

  • Formats
  • Frame rate
  • 1:1
  • 9:16

Return on Investment

  • Lol...I did't had maked this, never.
  • I don't use only iMovie in all my works. It's to occasionally use.

Alternatives Considered

Filmora, Adobe After Effects and Moho (Anime Studio)

Other Software Used

Adobe After Effects, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator CC

Great Video Editing Application

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have used iMovie to create promotional videos, whereby visual and audio clips from various sources are uploaded into the software and then clipped, edited accordingly and formatted in length, zoom (visual) and sound (audio). The end result can then be exported into a number of formats to suit the required final purpose.

Pros

  • Importing of clips
  • Transitions
  • Exporting finished product
  • Ease navigating tool bar

Cons

  • More colorful layout
  • Additional formats for exporting
  • More transition options

Return on Investment

  • This application comes pre-installed on Apple products so there is $0 additional cost for the software
  • It cannot be used on Windows so for this fact it was imperative to have an Apple laptop/desktop which is significantly more expensive than Windows

iMovie rules them all!!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use iMovie in a very specific situation : to create souvenir video of the dozens of events I organize every year. The short videos are presented at the end of every event and participants love them! I use the "TRAILER" preset and the script is created in advance. I then shoot the specific type of scenes I need to fit in the script. Very efficient process that allows me to export the video in my Keynote as the participants interact.

Pros

  • Integration of video from iphone
  • Integrated soundtrack
  • Possibility to modify the template
  • Lots of great templates
  • Seamless integration of music and movie
  • Super easy to use
  • Super easy to export to social media

Cons

  • Although the template for the trailer preset are great , they have been the same for close to a decade now
  • Need new templates for some presets
  • The recent update makes the export process more confusing
  • It would be nice to select the location of file export more easily when send to a computer.

Return on Investment

  • iMovie is free....ROI is thus VERY high
  • Learning curve is very short. Ideal in our era of instantaneous gratification
  • The video I create and show at every event has become one of my trademarks! People talk about it every time!
  • The way I use the "trailer" preset allows me to share on social media easily
  • I send video souvenir to my client after each mandate and they love it !

iMovie is quick, relatively simple, and a good value

Pros

  • Quick edits to get raw video presentable fast.
  • Titles are simple to apply.
  • Editing out unwanted recordings is easy.

Cons

  • A dedicated YouTube compatible output format would be nice.
  • It is not intuitive to add music over the video.
  • The app itself is a bit of a resource hog.

Most Important Features

  • To the point above, we have both Microsoft and Apple users, and it seems to work well for both.
  • Cost structure is appropriate.
