From the use of this platform, it is evident that this has changed the way product design strategy is approached. Its workspace enables the optimization of the models with respect to desired design parameters and key performance indicators. It employs historical data along with forecasts, making the design decision sensitive.

Pros

It stands out by the multidimensional model, where one can perform modeling across several dimensions to get a holistic look into the impact.
Its planning analytics engine is based on analyzing the tendencies for client usage.
Integration of dynamic workflows makes it possible for various teams to work together immediately in efforts to decide on the strategies that have to be implemented.

Cons

Spending much time and effort to set the right dimensions and structures.
Despite the inclusion of many features, the interface provides too much information to the user.
Some components of the visualization can be not customized enough, and in some cases, they must be exported to other tools in order to be presented.

Likelihood to Recommend

This platform is good at seasonal cyclic patterns to support the design decisions; it is also good at recognizing the changes of the UI facets in relationship to the conversion ratings among the demographics. It is less preferred for the UX metrics that demand second analysis. It is especially effective at planning in the medium to long term concerning the effect of seasons for the user and distribution of resources.

We use IBM Planning Analytics to analyse students' results. Planning Analytics allows us to identify at risk students at an early stage, so we can provide necessary assistance to students who are at risk to fail. This helps us retain more students who would drop out or switch to other universities.

It overcomes the issues of complex models built in Excel spreadsheets, disparate data sources, and lack of governance and control.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Currently, IBM Planning Analytics is still in its infancy stages within the organization. It is not heavily used due to a lack of knowledge and training. Planning Analytics is used for basic reporting right now. Training is the biggest problem we are addressing right now. Skillsets that have the analytic mindset need to be hired to support Analytics more efficiently.

This is a great tool, but the user interface could be easier to navigate. I've been using the tool in our test environment to pull data from our backend data tables and this process has been proven to be a pretty easy process. Still building some dashboards to develop a decision-based process based on the data presented.

Currently, Analytics is used across the university for forecasting, trending, future planning, and current statistics for enrollment, retention, and graduation. We have the initiative to develop and deploy new modernized dashboards to further support a tech-forward campus culture change through the use of data. Data-driven decisions are also on the roadmap and strategic plan to ensure decisions are made with data.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

IBM Planning Analytics powered by TM1 is used by the Finance Department for budgeting, forecasting & planning to a 10 year horizon. It is also used in the planning & quality analytics area to look at sales targets & revenues based on industry data & past sales results.

It consolidates what would normally be a time consuming & manual process to extract data out of the Oracle ERP into spreadsheets for month-end reporting, forecasts & budgeting.

Pros

Ability to extract & report data at a very granular level.
Scenario analysis by changing data & seeing what the overall impact is.

Cons

Would like IBM to ensure the Cloud experience is as stable as the on-premise version.
More direct IBM involvement to resolve system & environment issues & informing the customer directly rather than through 3rd party support providers who may not be able to.

Recommended for its ability to build multiple cubes for data capture & reporting (e.g. management month-end, workforce, capital & cashflow).
