Use Cases and Deployment Scope

IBM Cognos Analytics is deeply integrated into our daily reporting and decision-making and I use IBM Cognos Analytics mainly for data visualization and analytics in my role as controller for finance and IT at LMW Limited.

Pros

IBM Cognos Analytics dashboards are simple to use and make data exploration a whole lot easier.
A non-technical person with clean data can build a dashboard with almost no experience.
Drag-and-drop capability simplifies chart generation and even complicated dashboards are simple to explore and customize.

Cons

For new comers, the learning curve is steep.
There is a slight lag with the cloud version.

Likelihood to Recommend

I’ve used Power BI and Alteryx before, but IBM Cognos Analytics is way easier and more convenient for data visualization and integration, also the dashboard sharing function has improved my collaboration with my colleagues. If someone asks, I’d definitely recommend IBM Cognos Analytics for its practical features and ease of use.

Indeed, our organizing work with this platform has increased the possibilities of risk assessment. It does not have variations in calculations when making various reports. Scheduling functionality has now made the preparation of risk reports periodic. Improved on the aspect of interorganizational relations between different teams and committees.

Pros

This platform significantly differs because it uses AI to discover previously unknown patterns in data.
Natural language querying lets users, especially those not very conversant with computers or information technology, process large databases.
Self-service enables analysts to create, make, and distribute risk visualization in their own time without involving the technical department.

Cons

The mobile experience is not as rich as it could be in the desktop one because some options are not available.
Template creation for the first time is more challenging compared to other similar tools, but may not be a severe drawback.
It is less than ideal to apply custom branding elements and see how those are being visualized in relationship to each other.

Likelihood to Recommend

It stands out best when designing multidimensional scorecards, as it doesn't slow down when managing extensive data. It performs less well when integrating quantitative data with qualitative data; such data need preprocessing. Not only that, but it excels in developing the automated reports that get updated from time to time depending on the prevailing circumstances.

It addresses problems related to data warehousers, help with poor decision making, and difficulties in identifying trends and other potential opportunities. We utilize the tool within our organization to better understand data, make informed decisions, and that advantage of other features like reporting, modeling, analysis, dashboards, and AI powered insights to better track trends.

Pros

We can make dozens of dispatchers all focusing on different types of workloads.
Friendly user interface, without the need for coding or complicated editing.
Highly functionality reporting tools.
We can easily create trigger when a certain threshold are met sending reports or alerts to needed parties.

Cons

Have to regularly checking official IBM channels or newsletters for updates and changes.
The availability to work in a sandbox environments or trial versions of IBM Cognos Analytics to practice.
Better for On-Prem vs cloud.
The pricing is higher than some of their competitors.

IBM Cognos Analytics has advanced analytics capabilities and good reporting tools. Also, though it is better on demand for on-premises than cloud it does offer both. The system also supports various data management requirement needs. It is also pretty user friendly offering many dashboard and visualization options. The platform also integrates well with other business tools.

I have used IBM Cognos Analytics previously for reporting retail data. It has good data modeling capability. Very robust system to handle good volume of data. It has good scope for analyzing retail data. Good in connecting various sources, including database & flate file source like csv, xls etc. Various charts are available to be used

Feature 1: Cognos Analytics is INTUITIVE
Easily upload files from the main dashboard using the “upload data” card.
Cognos Analytics automatically identifies the data type of each variable.
Organize data into folders — awesome for large datasets.

Cons

Data integration & connectivity - should have option to add Morden contor like dropbox , cloudsources
Learning curve is steep - as compare to other BI tool like powerbi, tableau etc
Complex licensing model, its should be simplified & cost effective
Mobile we usage is not friendly

It was well suited when we had full proof Data warehouse pipeline. It is good for adopting it & creating pipeline using kimball data warehouse approach . For retail data warehouse which majory follow data warehouse articture IBM Cognos Analytics is very suitable, How ever for small enterprise it need to be made affordable to make it more captive from the pricing perspective.

I use IBM Cognos Analytics mainly for reporting and data visualization, and it makes it easier for me to produce thorough reports and mix several data sources. Predictive analytics and the AI chatbot help one to acquire insights without writing code.

Pros

AI chatbot simplifies data searching.
Creating thorough reports requires seamless integration and also with several data sources.
Push alerts always remind me of deadlines and achievements.

Cons

Sometimes, the cloud version is a little slow, particularly in relation to bigger datasets.
The learning curve is steep and configuring data connections can be trouble.
The default templates often seem constrained, and I wish there were more choices for visualizations.

This platform manages data analysis, dashboards, and reporting all at once, and teams who wish to cooperate without running the danger of data loss would greatly benefit from it, and it has more use and greater freedom in report design.

My organization uses IBM Cognos Analytics to pull data reports from Deltek Costpoint. There is no way to pull data only with Costpoint so we use IBM Cognos Analytics to fill that gap.

Pros

A lot of data pulls onto one report
You can customize reports
Accurate data

Cons

With the last upgrade the reports take a really long time to load. It now takes us like a week in advance to pull all the reports for SBA reporting.

I work in Procurement/Subcontracts for my organization so we do a lot of purchasing of services, software and hardware, maintenance. We use Deltek Costpoint for purchase orders however, there is no way to pull all the date. We use IBM Cognos Analytics to pull data reports for all types of information. We use it to track funding, track software/hardware renewals, accurately track small business spend for the government.

Should increase performance- it became slow when working with large datasets.

Congos is used for reporting and analytics processes only. Different structures are used to report on certain levels and increase understanding. The scope was to have a flexible and user-accepted (friendly) tool.
