Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Handshake for all of our campus recruiting efforts. We send campaigns to students to drive attendance at career fairs and encourage them to apply to specific jobs. We also use Handshake to garner insights into where our efforts are paying off.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have used Handshake Talent Engagement Suite to connect with educational providers to meet and talk with students to get them to learn about our company and also apply as possible future new hires. This has given us the ability to build our pipeline for new hires and we use it to identify new talent. Additionally, this allows students to learn further about our company and the opportunities and jobs that we provide.

Likelihood to Recommend

This product is well suited if you are looking for new hires and need the ability to find and identify them very quickly and efficiently. This might be less appropriate for a company that is not hiring directly out of college and may not need the ability to find and identify talent immediately. We were looking for a certain amount of new hires that we needed to fit a specific skillset and by using Handshake Talent Engagement Suite we were able to target specific students with that skillset and get them interested in the position.

I use Handshake to recruit potential professionals to work for our clinic. Instead of going on individual university websites to advertise for positions at our clinic, we use Handshake as a way to interact with as many Universities as possible in one easy to use web application. Handshake has been easy to use with an intuitive user interface. We have only been on Handshake for a short time with no results yet but I am hoping it will help fill our professional needs in the coming year.

  • It does not provide informatics on how may searches have occurred for our ad

Likelihood to Recommend

I am looking for an associate veterinarian for our hospital. Being on Handshake has made it easy to put this out to as many universities as possible. In the past, we would have to put an ad on each individual university from which we would want to recruit. This has saved much needed time.

I've used Handshake for the past two years to find interns. In fact, it was a previous intern who told me about it in the first place. I'm a solopreneur, so having a couple of extra hands is extremely beneficial, and I knew I could make a great learning experience for an intern as well. I'm a copywriter and marketing consultant, so most of my interns have been PR and marketing majors. And I like the fact that I can target specific schools. Since I work by and for myself, having interns has been terrific in getting an additional perspective for my business.

Pros

  • I like that I can target specific schools.
  • I like that I can interact with the university's career department to improve my listing, get feedback, and have them help promote internally.

Cons

  • It's not an intuitive system. Even after using it for two years, I forget where features are from time-to-time when I need to edit or make updates.
  • As compared to another site I use, it's a little confusing to figure out where you should add when you're accepting applicants and when the internship starts and finishes.

Likelihood to Recommend

Handshake is mostly suited for internships or entry-level positions since you can also target recent graduates. Internships can be paid or unpaid, short, long, or whatever you need. But descriptions need to be well thought out and clear, or the university may not approve it. Handshake would not be suitable, I don't think, for trying to find employees more than a year out of college. I don't think of it as a regular job posting site.
