Google Compute Engine Review
Rating: 8 out of 10
IncentivizedUse Cases and Deployment Scope
Google Compute Engine is an Infrastructure as a service component of GCP. We are able to deploy and downsize any virtual service using this service. Our organization is transitioning from on prem to cloud and this service enables us to save cost on both capex and open. We are able to deploy multiple instances of virtual servers when the demand is high and we can downsize when the demand is low. The pay as you go model has been very beneficial during the budget excercise to save additional cost
Pros
- Hosting applications or web servers
- Multiple instances of virtual servers can be spun up
- Pre prod environment is set up for all the testing before it's scheduled on prod servers.
Cons
- The GCP in general is a little complicated cloud service provider thn AWS/Azure
- Low availability on south america locations
Likelihood to Recommend
Google Compute Engine can be used to install web servers because of the payment you as you go model and the availability of sizing up or down as per the demand. There is option to install either Linux or windows operating systems. We can manage the resources via phone as well using the GCP application.
