Google Clout IoT is very complex to beginners

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I had to use Google Cloud IoT platform for building a smart home project to interact with entities, mostly Google's Nest thermometer. The third-party software was called Home Assistant, where you can connect IoT devices and automate making a smart home a lot smoother. There is a lot of integration that happens doing it this way but the functionality is very pleasing.

Pros

  • Access to several services.
  • Very thorough services.
  • Wide range of functionality.

Cons

  • Not beginner friendly.
  • Needs more tutorials and walk throughs on how to get started.
  • Very complicated and unless you know what you are doing you will be lost.
  • Lack of material found on how to do each section / services.

Most Important Features

  • Needs to be User friendly.
  • Tutorials need to be easy accessible.
  • A working example needs to be included with each service.

Return on Investment

  • The amount of hours to get things integrated is negative.
  • The amount of hours researching how to get devices integrated is negative.
  • Overall the amount of time and effort getting things working has been a negative experience.

Other Software Used

Adobe Dreamweaver, Terminal, Ubuntu Linux, Microsoft 365, NordVPN, Discord, IBM Cloud Virtual Servers, Notepad++, Kali Linux, Fedora Linux, Facebook Business Manager, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Acrobat DC, Adobe Bridge, Microsoft Windows, GitHub

One of the best IOT platforms.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The last years of work have been dedicated to the design of electronic equipment related to the IoT, I have analyzed and experimented with different platforms, Google Cloud IoT being one of the ones that have best impressed me. Although later I have chosen to design a personalized platform that uses parts from different providers including Google, to date I consider that I will use it again in new projects.

Pros

  • Integration with different brands of microcontrollers including the one currently used by Espresiff.
  • The platform is very robust and secure.

Cons

  • It would be convenient to be able to calculate operating costs simply and in advance.
  • At the moment the interface offers too many options that could be a problem for an inexperienced user.

Most Important Features

  • Scalability, no matter how many subscribers Google Cloud IoT has, it adapts its processing automatically.
  • Informatic security.
  • The best current technology.

Return on Investment

  • The use of Google Cloud IoT services is essentially charged according to the data transmission carried out, it is important to consider the volume of data to be used previously.
  • Despite the expense that cloud services may have, it is also true that a lot of personnel is saved, who should be available at all hours to ensure that the servers are active.
