Categories & Use Cases

FileZilla Is The Industry Standard For A Reason

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have been using FileZilla for many, many years as our main go-to for file transferring on our server. It offers the stability you'd expect and allows for a variety of connection types. The bulk transfer (import specifically) is nice because it has a variety of options for overrides. Over the years the upgrades to FileZilla have been stabile (no matter what operating system version you're using).

Pros

  • The Site Manager is well designed and allows for a variety of secure connection options.
  • The software itself has always been very stable and very rarely crashes
  • It's free! Their normal free version works well and has tons of features.
  • They didn't embed anything extra like annoying adverts.

Cons

  • Some of it's user interface could be a bit better designed (at least updated) to more of a modern look, but it's not really that big of a deal.
  • Inside the software it shows you various windows all embedded in one box. Moving the sizes of those windows around is a bit weird, especially if you just want of the windows to go away.
  • From time to time it can hang due to a timeout with the server connection. In those instances, I wish FileZilla would give you a heads up as to why it locked.

Return on Investment

  • It's simplistic user interface gives you all of the tools you need for FTP transfers.
  • The software itself is very stable and hardly ever freezes or crashes.
  • The updates made to it over the years have been great. The developers understand the simple mantra "if it isn't broke, don't fix it".

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use FileZilla on a daily basis in my work as a website developer. I've used it for years and whenever I find myself reinstalling the OS or buying a new computer, FileZilla is one of the first apps I install. It's reliable, easy to use, and simple to set up.

Pros

  • Creating new sites is very easy
  • Intuitive interface
  • Organizing sites

Cons

  • The only thing I would improve is being able to view the site passwords. I understand the reason why, but as a sole user, it would be really useful to see them.

Return on Investment

  • I use it for my > 50 client websites
  • Since it's free, it helps keep my costs down.

FileZilla - The Best UI FTP Solution

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use FileZilla to review files that have been placed on Vendors SFTP site. Although we have automation put in place to send files back and forth, FileZilla is used to check to see if connections to the Vendors SFTP Site is successful and used to manually transfer during the testing phases of our transmission projects.

Pros

  • User Interface is superior compared to other related software applications
  • Easy installation
  • Easy configuration

Cons

  • Unable to create password as well as SSH key authentication at the same time.
  • Loggin / Reporting could be improved to see cipher information

Return on Investment

  • Positive: Backup and restore so you do lose any of your configurate
  • Positive: Cross Platform handles different operating systems
  • Negative: Have to use another product when SSH and Passwords are used for the same connection

Usability

Super Handy FTP Software that is Easy to use with plenty of Power.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am constantly updating my website with new products and sales, so am using it regular to upload the files to my server space. It makes doing the updates really simple and i really like how the software handles the file structures and such. Its been really handy also for websites that I run/maintain for friends of mine, as one again it makes uploading updates to the server as easy as possible.

Pros

  • Easy Upload and Download of Files from my Server Space
  • Easy to Follow File Structure so you don't make mistakes uploading to the wrong location
  • I really like the option to only upload files that have changed since the last time they were uploaded. This works great for a faster update without having to upload everything every time. This is really handy.

Cons

  • At this present time, I am really happy with FileZilla and the options it offers. I can not think of anything they could really do better with the software.

Return on Investment

  • A positive impact for my needs is how easy it makes it for me to do my website upgrades, just click and go.
  • I like that I can easily log into and maintain not only my own websites but other peoples sites all in one program.

User-Friendly and Cost-Effective File Transfer Protocol Client

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

FileZilla provides a quick and easy way to access, transfer, and manage files on our AWS cloud server using SFTP with SSH2 key-based authentication—particularly when troubleshooting WordPress websites. For instance, when a plugin breaks a site, we use FileZilla to remove the problematic plugin and restore normal functionality. When website behavior is unexpected (such as malfunctioning drop-down menus in mobile mode), we use FileZilla to view and edit files. We also use FileZilla to back up WordPress files by downloading them to our local machine.

Pros

  • Removing a problematic WordPress plugin when it breaks a website
  • Editing files, e.g., the .htaccess file
  • Backing up WordPress files by dowloading them to our local machine
  • Uploading multiple favicon files

Cons

  • Filezilla meets all our needs from a file transfer protocol (FTP) client. There really isn't anything more or different we could want from this excellent software.

Return on Investment

  • Filezilla has been an invaluable tool in helping us troubleshoot problems on our servers and in restoring broken or non-functioning websites quickly. By minimizing the downtime of our websites, Filezilla helps to maintain our professional reputation and enables us to continue selling our digital products on our membership site.
  • Because Filezilla is free software, it helps to keep our software expenses manageable.
