We use DigitalOcean's Droplets to power our web servers for client sites, SaaS platforms, custom app backends, and more. They have been a great option that mixes an easy-to-use deployment options with optimal performance. The dashboard provides access to critical statistics on our servers, allowing us to address any performance issues with one-click upgrades.
Pros
Easy to launch
Performant
Secure
Cons
Some platforms offer better performance for cheaper servers
Likelihood to Recommend
There are some other platforms that compete with DigitalOcean Droplets that have more performant servers for a very minimal price decrease. However, DigitalOcean's servers still have great performance, and the experience is better when you consider the developer console, managed options, and uptime that DigitalOcean offers. DigitalOcean is the better all-around package.
We use DO droplets to host our applications. We are SaaS platform which includes more than 30 web applications. We use Digital Ocean to host some of our services along with manager Load Balancer. We also deploy cloud firewalls to protect these droplets from cyber attacks.
Pros
Quick to setup
Faster launch times
SSD storage by default
Multiple ready to use images for quickly setting up the stack you need
Cons
Honestly speaking, we never faced any challenge while using the droplets
It is developer friendly platform, but may be a bit difficult for non devs to run things
Nothing else as such

if you are just starting your business and want to quickly setup servers with cheaper cost, Digital Ocean droplets is the way to go. Minimum size droplet costs just $5 and its much less compared to any other cloud service providers.
We were evaluating various cloud-based computation platforms for our internal POC. Digital Ocean droplets were one of the cloud-based solution providers we used. Our POC consisted of using lots of threads to perform computations in parallel. Digital Ocean Droplets were easy to set up and start using, decently priced, and easily scalable. They also provide useful information thus keeping our bills in check to some extent.
Pros
Scalable
Easy to use
Cons
Usage information should be more real time
GPU option should be introduced
Likelihood to Recommend
If you want to set up your cloud infrastructure easily then Digital Ocean Droplets should suit you. They are scalable as well but they offer only CPU computation power. Hence, if your usage is only based on CPU computation then this can be a good option. They are decently priced as well. However, if you require graphics processing then this will not work.
As our main product is an education platform, we need to host the
website. The site being a heavyweight application, I can't use typical
hosting. So we buy VPS from DigitalOcean. DigitalOcean Droplets is one of the best in the
market according to our need because our platform is non-profit, so we
can't afford big servers all month long. DigitalOcean Droplets gives us the flexibility
to resize servers when the load increases. Our site is built with PHP
and we have built a deployment cycle in our DigitalOcean Droplets, so the development
process has been so much easier.
Moreover, we have been selected in DigitalOcean Droplets' non-profit program, where they provide us free credit for a year. That is another reason we chose DigitalOcean Droplets.
Pros
Instant server spin-up
App platform
CDN network
Cons
Managed database
App platform
Mobile app
Likelihood to Recommend
If you need a server with minimal pricing, for testing or
something, DigitalOcean Droplets is for you. If you need root level permission to
run your app and modify the system as you want, DigitalOcean Droplets is for you.
If you want one-click docker hosting or a highly scalable system, DigitalOcean Droplets might not be the best choice. Yet you can do it by yourself; it's just
not properly automated yet. Go for Azure/AWS. Because although DigitalOcean Droplets has an app platform where you can run your app directly and spin up docker container, it has issues. The deployment time is really long, and it takes ages to deploy.
