To process huge amount of data in short time. We need to have it always current, without any delays. We need to have also secure setup and resiliency on both hw and software
We are using IBM Db2 for our large scale applications because it handle million of transactions very quickly and efficiently with any lag or downtime. It available on all platform that gives us the flexibility. It has wide range of clustering options that saves us from failover as well as supporting horizontal scaling for workloads. High grade SQL optimisation engine boost performance of the application. We can also integrate with other IBM services.
Pros
Inbuilt AI feature for better optimization.
Reduce storage as well as maintenance cost.
Highly optimised for better performance.
Cons
Costly for small application or startups.
Little bit complex to setup.
Likelihood to Recommend
IBM Db2 is recommendable for large scale application because no downtime always required in financial application. As well as it ensure security and show the robustness.
We use IBM Db2 to store and manage data for customer services. The data is well organized and we can easily access when needed. It solves some common problems that we face such as slow reporting, data errors while handling large amounts of information. We generally prefer using it for day-to-day tasks. Also, we are looking at data to make better decisions. We use it only via cloud.
Pros
We deal with a large data of our customers along with their transactions, Db2 helps us to manage it very efficiently without slowing down.
Db2 provides security that helps us to keep our customer's confidential data safe.
It helps us to generate month end reports very fast due to it's efficient queries.
Cons
Data Studio feels little outdated, can be enhance and make user friendly.
Likelihood to Recommend
I can say, it suits for scenarios related to financial transactions as it is secure and very fast. And may be for startups or small projects, it should be less appropriate as data will be unstructured there and we can prefer noSQL there.

I mainly use Db2 for managing large volumes of employee data from multiple sources like ERP and payment software. Db2 is the best tool for integrating with BI tools like PowerBI and Excel and I use it daily for reporting, automations and querying.
Pros
easy integration with Db2
advanced security features like encryption and user roles, so I don’t worry much about data leaks
the Express version is great for small businesses and still works well with all tools
Cons
the design part of the view sometimes returns errors while the query works successfully
some tasks are complicated
sometimes I came across compilation errors
Likelihood to Recommend
It’s reliable, stable and handles huge datasets without breaking, even setting it up is straightforward, and you get help from support or the community easily.
We use Db2 in our organization to test the security products to notify customers for any DB related vulnerabilities. We mostly used it in our test and development environments. Also we use Db2 to do performance testing of various scenario involving the Queries per second and to benchmark the product on the Db2 database using various performance bench-marking tools like Sysbench, OLTP, HammerDB etc.
Pros
Excellent Security features
Very less Db specific vulnerabilities
Able to sustain high load
Excellent Queries per second (QPS) performance (Application Queries)
Cons
Comparatively difficult to setup the environment (OS dependencies)
Starting 11.5.x Solaris HPUX is not supported
Integration with third party tools is difficult
Likelihood to Recommend
Well suited for: 1. Works excellent with IBM based hardware and software environment 2. Performance is very good in terms of query execution time 3. Db2 is able to handle large spike of data with ease without much deterioration in setup
Less appropriate: 1. On Cloud based environment the applicability is not very good compared to its competitors

I’ve used IBM Db2 since v7, then v8, and now on v11+. Started on the mainframe and later moved to UNIX. I mostly use it for OLTP and OLAP workloads, integrating with COBOL apps and handling large data processing jobs.
Pros
the row-level locking helps me a lot in OLTP workloads without causing blocking
i really like the way Db2 integrates with COBOL just by using the SQLCA section
the performance and stability are very impressive, especially with near-zero downtime
Cons
sometimes I came across compilation errors, when I try to execute COBOL codes, using the DCLGEN utility for DB2
it’s cloud-native integration lags behind modern cloud-first databases like Aurora or Spanner
some tasks like traces are a bit complicated beyond the need for IBM for reading and understanding
Likelihood to Recommend
I’ve been using Db2 for almost 20 years and still find it reliable. If you’re working with COBOL or mainframe apps, it’s the best fit, I recommend it for teams that care about performance and enterprise-level stability.
As a database, for enterprise wide applications across the globe which requires robustness, scalable and secure databases while allows multiple-faceted user community. Large / medium organisations with humongous data sets to be managed is recommended a serious consideration of Db2. The peripheral enablers for handling large volume of data makes it better than times before. ( am avoiding specific product callouts, as it will depends on each one’s need / requirement along with willingness to spend) . Have noticed a lot more of acceptance in BFSI , logistics and manufacturing conglomerates. Decision is very similar to that of owning or leasing a private jet. Merely acquiring one won’t help your case but using the same optimally with a qualified crew makes the difference. Maintenance too will cost you in its own ways. Have seen Oracle , old Sybase , Max DB, Mongo , and HANA DB in action. Other than HANA DB for SAP, will consider Db2 any day. MHave had opportunities to closely work with IBM labs to get support and enhancements. Experience was superlative. FYI-not been in Sync with labs since 2022. During these cloud y days, an operationally sharp acumen can take the calls as is the confidence alluded on security.
Pros
Hosting ERP applications of SAP across 3 continents and round the clock
Banking solutions with few hundreds of millions as customers
Secure DB operations where security outweighs spender
Cons
HA DR activities to be simplified
Normal DB maintenance requires qualified professionals
License costs
Likelihood to Recommend
Well suited for where ever you want to handle 1) large data volumes 2) most cases structured, you may considering a streaming complementary solutions for high volume write ( inputs from sensor kind of devices ) 3) security , back up , scalability as well as robustness
will not suggest for small and medium industries which does not have large data volumes or moderate ERP s where transactions are less than 100 a day… unstructured data retrieval also has it’s own lag
